comfortable shoes for prom

DD has only ever worn trainers or lace up school shoes and is a very keen on sports so never wants to risk affecting her feet with slip on shoes/ballet shoes etc. However she wants to fit in with the others with sandals or similar for her yr 11 prom. Ideally she needs some height but would want to be able to be very active and not risk any injury. Are there any other options? She will be wearing a long prom dress.

If she’s never really worn heels I would very much suggest she prioritises flat shoes for the prom. She doesn’t need to add any height, if her dress is too long maybe see if it can be altered?

I don’t think wearing slip on / ballet shoes / sandals is going to damage her feet or risk injury as a one off - sure if you wear unsupportive flats all the time it’s not great but it’s fine sometimes unless you’ve got real foot issues.

I’d try and get some well made nice leather flats and get her to wear them in so she gets used to them. V bad idea to wear a completely different type of shoe for the first time on a night out (speaking as an old lady with v troublesome feet 😆😆 - I’m sure most people manage fine!)

No idea what style she should get to fit in but some kind of well made shoe, try a load on and see which are comfy?

Lots of girls wear trainers or converse at their prom these days (I have organised the prom for the last 15 years and seen a big change in footwear). Last year chunky DM style sandals were a thing.

she needs to wear something comfortable - most girls are bare foot or hobbling and hour in!

I get she wants to wear heels! Try primark wide fit heeled sandals. Super comfy and I can wear them with my arthritic big toe and forget I have them on. They are not very elegant though and have a chunky heel. I have these ones in two colours and loads on Vinted. These aren’t mine. I’m sure there will be lots to choice for prom season. Will she have a bag big enough for some emergency flat shoes? Some foldable ballet pumps?

Most wore crocs the same colour as their dresses.
