Help with outfit for DSIS wedding

For me. I have lost over 2 stone in weight and it's been about 15 years since I've been to a wedding! My little sister is getting married.

My dds are bridesmaids as is my other sister (I didn't want to be one as felt fat and uncomfortable !). They are all in shades of pink. My dmum has also decided to wear pink.

But I feel pink would make me look like a wannabe bridesmaid.

What do you think of this dress? Tried it on today and both dds said how much they liked it. It fits well in a size smaller than I've worn in over a decade. It's fitted which is so not usually me!

I was thinking pale pink shoes and pashmina? Maybe a pink hat thingy? To tie into bridal party but without being too obvious.

But I feel very lost. I don't go anywhere. I don't wear nice dresses and definitely not heels. Can anyone help before I make an expensive mistake and feel uncomfortable all day.

Wedding is end of March. I am mid 40s, 5ft5 and a size 16.

Love that dress. I don’t think I would add pink - or aim to be bridal party merging ? I think bronze / gold or orange shoes would look great against aubergine. Does this suit your colouring?

Lovely dress and congrats on the weight loss, I’d not add pink, I personally would go nude,

user1471530109 · 17/02/2026 07:43

Thanks both.
So you think no pink? I'm just aware that all my immediate family are wearing pink 😂
The shade I was thinking of was barely pink. Almost nude?

But I do have some gold shoes already. I will try them on with the dress later. Heels and me are not friends. Do I suck it up and take lower shoes for later? I'm not even sure if be able to walk in them 🫣

Do you think a hat thing? I've seen ones on a hair band? I've never worn anything like that before (wasn't a fan of the fascinator back in the day). But feel I need to make a big effort. I'll also be doing a reading.

As you can. I am really out of my depth.

Pretty dress.

If you really don’t want heels, you could try some little Mary Janes- there are lots around. I think you should avoid trying to match the wedding party though.

Re the head thing, it really depends on the wedding group. I’ve been to two weddings recently where pretty much everyone had a head thing of some sort, but people on here generally say nobody wears them!

Frenchfrychic · 17/02/2026 09:00

Pink and plum I find a bit twee, so I’d avoid, you can wear a low block heel or kitten you find comfy,

personally I don’t like hats/fascinators but if you do go for it.

Hi again. Can I ask some more advice?

Firstly. I managed to find the exact dress on vinted for a fraction of the price. So I'm feely very smug 😊saved over £100!

All the shoes I've tried on I either don't like or just don't fit. I've been trying to wear low heels to work etc to train my feet up. I think losing the weight has helped to be honest. My feet are coping!

I have a pair of cream and gold open toe court style (already own) and a pair of plum court shoes (again already own) that I may end of wearing. They aren't massively fashionable but my DD said she likes them. So they can't be that bad! They are both very comfy too. So I'm starting to think I may wear one of these but I am struggling g to find them 🙄. Also a pair of block heels slider style? In soft gold leather. But I'm conscious of my toes (I have a missing toe nail 🫣

But I'm now starting to think it's going to be cold in less than 4 weeks! Do you think I need a pashmina or similar. What colour would you go for? I can't decide between gold, cream or a pale blue or sage? Or even lilac?

Finally. All the hats etc I tried on really weren't me. So I've had my hair coloured and will blow dry into loose waves (this is a a big change for me. My hair always looks a bit of a mess) and I'm currently wearing contacts!

I think I'm feeling the pressure as I haven't seen some of my family for a decade. In fact, probably my own wedding 20 years ago! divorced now (he had an affair). I want to feel good about myself. I know I sound clueless and a little desperate. I want to look nice in my sister's pics (and she is honestly stunning 😁 and 10 years younger than me)

If you're going to be outdoors I think you will probably need some kind of wrap/pashmina but if the wedding is all indoors, in one venue, then you should be fine. Your dress is lovely and you're going to look great.

That's really nice of you @Delphiniumandlupins . Thank you 💐

Also against pink and agree with more neutral accessories. Also buy a new lipstick and maybe book yourself in for a bouncy blow dry on the day to boost your confidence.

Decide on a pashmina or jacket colour once you have decided on footwear and bag colour. I am also not a fab of hats and fascinators.

I was at a summer wedding last year in a very swanky hotel my daughter was also bridesmaid. No one wore a hat. I went for a different colour to the bridesmaid dress. But MIL and the grooms sister wore the exact same one coloured long dress and both looked like wannabe bridesmaids trying to muscle in.
