I feel like I am going round in circles trying to find the right look so hoping for some inspiration!
Summer wedding , church then marquee at the family home. Dress code is morning suits preferred so I need a hat too.

I am 40, size 10, 5'3 so would prefer midi length but I will get the dress tailored. Not yellow. I am brunette and fairly pale, jewel colours suit me. Would like something classy and contemporary, bonus points if I can wear it again for the races etc. budget up to £1000, would prefer to spend less and happy to buy on vinted etc as well.

What about Queens of Archive? They don’t have their SS26 stuff up yet - but this is from last year:

Why on earth would it matter if she chose something from Monsoon or Phase Eight? If someone likes something but won’t wear it merely because of the label, that’s just crackers.

And in the real world, rather than MN fantasy land, Self Portrait would be very rare, a real treat, at the high limit of available budgets and certainly not, ‘Done to death’.

How the other half live! 😂

Those brands have been done to death and are very recognisable thus date very easily. SP was something I wore about 7 years ago but just wouldnt now. It doesn’t take away from someone who likes it and wants to wear it now AND it’s also okay for someone to not want to wear those brands too.

For someone looking for a quality, well made outfit going to Monsoon or Phase Eight just isn’t going to cut it. Why would you buy a mass cheaply made product if you’re looking for something high quality?

I really don’t care if you do/don’t want to wear things. I do care about snobbery and the number of people on here who flaunt their privilege by sneering at the high street. It’s happening more and more and the implication is always that people are somehow lesser if they don’t know about whatever the internet version of a cute little high end boutique is. It stinks.

And swap into Anya for dancing in the evening:

There are some wonderful dresses there.

Has got to be a troll!

As a PP suggested, I'd really consider separates. I love jumpsuits too, obviously they have to be the right shape etc for the right person. I also wouldn't be bothered about the label/brand. If it's something you love that suits you then who honestly cares where it comes from?!

I think you do care, because you have taken the time to form an opinion on what types of clothing people prefer and then you decided that people suggesting high end clothing on here are snobs and you took the time to write a post about it. The reason why posters are saying no to high street on thread is because the OP was very clear that she has a high budget, thus indicating NOT shopping on the high street.

There is nothing wrong with shopping high street and people should not be judged for it. Likewise, there is nothing wrong for wanting to shop high end either.

Also @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie you should just be confident in your fashion choices and what makes you happy and stop paying attention to opinions on clothing, stores, etc. that don't align with you. It is just clothing after all.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/02/2026 08:14

I’m perfectly confident in my choices, thanks. I just dislike snobbery. I’ll leave you to it now.

@mrsmogg Not sure if you've ordered & tried on anything yet, but if you're veering towards pink I just spotted this on sale & in your size? It's not as recognisably "fashion-y" as Rixo, Self Portrait etc ...? Or maybe someone will tell me it is!! Might need shortened a wee bit.

Thank you for all the suggestions, I have spent hours or rather days looking at dresses! I went down a lot of rabbit holes looking at vintage and hiring too :)

I've bought a Zimmerman dress, fingers crossed it is as nice when it is delivered as it looks online.

I hope it's fabulous!! I've had a lot of fun looking (& found some AMAZING vintage dresses too, which have been a delight just to admire!!!). Good luck with the Zimmerman dress - & if it doesn't suit & you'd like some vintage ideas, you can always return here ...!!!
