I’m hoping some MN’ers can help me. I’ve been looking for a long coat for last few winters and haven’t been able to find anything that fits the bill.

I have more casual warm coats for walking, kids matches, weekend activities. A didricksons is the main one I wear. And I have long wool coats as well, But I’m looking for something I could wear to work when weather wet. public transport commute plus 15 minutes walk each end. Sometimes have to go to work events also in the evenings. corporate work environment.

ideally mid calf, but I’m only 5’4. Size 8. £200 budget approx.

I'd go for a classic trench coat - like the Barbour Camilla which is waterproof. It may not be really warm but you can add thick woolen scarves over it, if needed. Means it would also be wearable on milder rainy days.

Barbour has a range of waterproof trenchcoats between £150 and £200.

This is the holy grail - the trifecta of warm, waterproof, and elegant / professional rather than rugged / rural. Bonus points if it’s hooded so I don’t have to carry an umbrella all the time.

Following with interest!

I bought a really lovely hooded winter waterproof wool trench in the sales from here when I was on a weekend away in amsterdam. Prices have gone up since but depending how soon you want it worth keeping an eye for future sales. Just be careful about import tax. (If anyone is going out there it's a faff but you can claim vat duty back on the purchase at the airport too).

I was looking at the Protected Species ones, I want a thinner one for summer but they do winter ones as well.

To the poster, I hope that you find what you seek. I love the look of the Raincouture raincoats!

However, what I’d really like is as stylish a design as these but with a very warm removable fleece or fur (zip or button in) lining which would extend its wearability. There are lots of men’s coats with removable linings … but not women’s. And don’t get me started on U.K. clothiers who omit hoods and pockets from coats. Grrr.
