Styling help - wide leg trousers

I’ve bought a pair of M&S black, crepe, wide leg trousers. They have pockets and an elasticated waist. I think they are nice and fit well, and feel good too.

I’m size 16 and I don’t feel they make me look huge. But …. what do I wear with them? The model in the photo looks great (of course) with tucked in white T-shirt. I just don’t suit. And also - what footwear? I only wear flats and like chunky sole trainers, but do they go? Any suggestions? I’m after summer/ spring looks really.

Thank you @Happyandkoiful very much for your reply and suggestions. I see a lot of recommendations for Rapanui on here. Coincidentally I’ve just ordered a pair of Adidas VL Court trainers. I actually don’t mind fitted so might try that too.

I agree with a shorter boxy top. If you feel a bit exposed, a loose cami underneath that hangs down a couple of inches can look good.

Yes to a shorter, boxy t-shirt or shirt. A slightly cropped jacket would look good. With wide leg trousers you need to rethink proportions on your top half and go a bit shorter, but not too short either, I think tops look best just sitting over the waist. It'll depend how tall you are, too.

Loafers are a good alternative to trainers, and very on trend right now.

Thank you! I have a couple of old Seasalt boxy T-shirts so will experiment
