Has anyone had a facial mole removed?

NancyDrooo · 12/02/2026 21:34

Long story short I am getting a small cyst removed (privately) and when I spoke to the consultant today it would only cost me an extra £250 to get a mole removed at the same time. It’s quite prominent and will leave a small scar but I’ve always hated it and would love it gone.

Has anyone had this done? How long did it take to heal? Do you miss your missing mole?

My mum thinks I’m silly and it’s just part of me. I think while I’m getting one thing done I might as well make use of a good deal!

Do it, get it removed. I hated mine plus they get bigger as you age.
Took a few weeks to heal . Never missed it.

Hatty65 · 12/02/2026 21:42

Oh I'm really glad you posted this, and thanks @Janeaway for the response. I have a seborrheic keratosis on my face that has appeared in the last few years (have had it checked by doctor) and it's really annoying me because it doesn't feel like me.

I'd love it removed but have been worried it would scar/look worse.

Janeaway · 12/02/2026 21:48

I also actually had a seborrheic keratosis removed too from my chest. Hated it too. Slight scarring - nothing really.

scoobydeedoo · 12/02/2026 21:49

I've had 2 removed, don't regret it whatsoever even though I have been left with scars. The scar can be easily covered with makeup but the moles couldn't be. It wasn't pretty at first but healed after a few weeks.

It may be part of you, but my moles were too and they were parts I was glad to be rid of! 😁

I feel like it is getting bigger (and hairier!) and I really notice it on photos, more so than when I was younger. I assume others don’t see it like I do, but along with general ageing sagginess and wrinkles it’s just bugging me.

£250 is a good price for getting it removed by a medic. Do it. It will only get bigger

CombatBarbie · 12/02/2026 22:17

Not my face but on my breast, in summer when im always wearing vest tops so was visible. It was pain free and didnt take long at all to heal. There's a small scar but you need to look for it really. Life's too short for hangups.....

Burntt · 12/02/2026 22:26

Had one removed professionally, can’t remember how long the healing was not bad enough to have made an impact. One on my face I caught and ripped off accidentally, that hurt! But healed nice enough it’s just a scar. I bought this band thing that you can remove moles that stick out at home and have taken a few off that way- it’s brilliant no pain and no healing

crazytiredrn · 12/02/2026 22:34

Yes I had a mole removed from my face and the surgeon made a mess of it and I was left with a big scar and skin that healed leaving a lump as the stitches weren’t done right.

DO IT! I had 2. One on my neck, sort of under my chin! and one at the side of my face on my cheekbone. Both dark and sticky-outy. Didn't bother me as a child or teen, as they weren't very big, or obvious, and no-one seemed to notice them really.

By 35-36-ish, I noticed that they were very prominent. I HATED them and used to airbrush them out on photos!

By around 38-39 the one on my neck got infected when I caught it with my nail and made it bleed. I went to the GP - before covid so easy to get in - and he said 'oooh, that needs removing, it will only get bigger and you will keep catching it.' I said 'I'm sorry to be cheeky but can you do this other one (on my cheekbone?') The GP said 'yes of course. May as well do them both together!'

I was booked in for the minor surgery clinic 3 weeks later in our Medical Practice, and the GP sliced them both off. I had 1 big stitch (around 1.25 inches long) for each one, and they healed within about a month. Started healing after 6 or 7 days, but totally healed within a month. Left tiny faint scars that you can't even see. And I was sooooooooooo happy to get rid of these ugly moles. (Ugly to me!)

Do get it done @NancyDrooo and don't try a home kit, I know people who have tried that and it just left them with nasty infections, and the moles stayed put. One woman managed to pull hers off, (after using a home kit) and she now has a 'hollow' where it was. Like she can put a smartie in it! And it is noticeable. Let someone professional do it. The 2 areas where mine were are smooth and flat now like nothing was ever there.

My last mole removal didn’t heal well. My body rejected the stiches and the resulting scar was bigger and more raised than the scar … 3 yrs on and it’s still the same .
this was on my arm … it’s totally put me off having my face mole removed tbh

thenightsky · 12/02/2026 22:48

I had 2 removed from my temple. I was always catching them with hairbrushes or combs and making it bleed. I mentioned them to my GP who agreed to take them off himself in his minor surgery session. He then sent them off for skin cancer testing to be on the safe side. I have the tiniest little white lines of barely 2mm. I can't really call them scars.

OP... as a matter of interest, how much are you paying for the cyst removal? I've got one in the middle of my cheekbone I'd love to get rid of.

WinterBlues26 · 12/02/2026 22:48

Sorry to jump on to your thread but how do you find somebody reputable to remove moles? I have a large one just underneath a nostril and it bloody hurts when I have a cold and need to wipe it constantly. GP refuses to remove it as it's not cancerous 🙄

Yeah it’s £250 on top of £450 for the cyst on my chin which is definitely going. I did see a GP about it years ago who said it’s cosmetic and can’t be done on the NHS, then a local private clinic recently took on a plastic surgeon for small procedures and advertised free consultations so I went along. I asked about the mole and he said he’d do it at the same time for an extra £250, otherwise it’d be full whack at around £600 as it’s quite big. And I do love a bargain!

@WinterBlues26 How can your GP know that?

Ask to be referred - unless they’ve got special powers, they can’t know.

£450 for the cyst and I’m definitely getting that done anyway. £700 for both.

Look up dermatology clinics, but make sure it’s done by proper medics rather than cosmetic salons.

What the OP said! But also, could you ask your GP for some suggestions of who you could go private with?

7238SM · 12/02/2026 23:08

Not me but my mum had things removed from her face. 2 were skin coloured, spherical lumps. I'm not sure if they are technically a mole though? One on the side of her nose and the other underneath the tip which was smaller. Nil issues at all with their removal and I only remembered when seeing photos recently.

When older, she developed a dark, mole coloured patch on her eye lid. I was with her when it was removed. I think some people with dental issues, facial moles etc don't realise how distracting they can be for some people trying to talk to them. I will always try to concentrate on the person, but sometimes the mole can be difficult to miss and not stare at. The pic isn't a mole, but you get the idea. Sorry.

The skin A&E TV show might be an option for those that can't afford to go private if they want things removed.

Has anyone had a facial mole removed?
Hillsmakeyoustrong · 12/02/2026 23:14

I had a small mole removed from next to my mouth. People would refer to it as a beauty mark but i had to pluck it and it was becoming more raised. I had it removed and it healed really well, I would massage the scar everyday with bio oil and now you just can't see it at all. I would say that I'm glad I got I removed in my 30s as my skin healed very well back then, I'm not sure at nearly 50 as other mole removals have not been as tidy. So I'd say, get it done when you have younger skin, pick a good doctor, and take care of the scar in its early days.

Wetcoatsandmudagain · 12/02/2026 23:15

Had one removed from my arm, was told there would be scarring but you can barely see it. Healed really quickly. Wouldn’t hesitate to do it again

CookingFatCat · 12/02/2026 22:53

Ask to be referred - unless they’ve got special powers, they can’t know.

Several GPs have refused point blank to refer or suggest as they say it doesn't meet the criteria (of uneven edges). Mind you that was precovid when I could actually get to see a doctor.

Thanks for the pointer of dermatology clinics to whoever suggested it.

fashionqueen0123 · 12/02/2026 23:38

Yes I did. I think it was like cauterised off? I didn’t have stitches.

Left a tiny small scar way smaller than the mole was!

PawMaw · 12/02/2026 23:39

I had one on my face and one on my neck removed (shaved then cauterised) in 2021. Took about 10 days to heal to pink with plenty Vaseline on the wounds to stop scarring.

My face you would never tell anything was there, my neck has a flat scar but doesn't bother me. Mine were raised like cocopops and didn't need stitching.

Wish I had done it years before. £250 is a bargain, I was £1500 for both but think the histopathology was the most expensive part

Purplevioletblu · 12/02/2026 23:46

I've had 2 moles removed, they numbed the area first then he used a blade to remove. Very happy with the results and only have a very small scar that no one would notice apart from me.

I didn't want a witchy hairy mole on my chin, expensive but worth it.
