Tis utter madness.

yes, but a deposit on a house is a sensible thig to do. however collen and wayne already have the sensible stuff. this is from the extra money.
ooo, i want a dianond ring that is as big as a chicken nugget.

NigellaTheUndomesticGoddess · 15/06/2008 22:21

I would but I am ver ver wealthy.

wannaBe · 15/06/2008 22:23

it's all relative though isn't it? People wouldn't consider paying that kind of money for a ring because most of us will never have that kind of money, so spending it on one piece of jewellery is incomprehensible.

I would though. if I had that kind of money I wouldn't say no to a million pound ring.

As an aside, I'm not sure which is worse.. reading ok/hello/heat magazine? or admitting to it?

I know that they can't be short of a bob or two, but he can't play football forever, can he? I would be worried about how I would live in my old age, especially as they will be used to living the high life.
Sigh, I suppose that I just can't imagine having that kind of money. Probably just as well.

stitch · 15/06/2008 22:32

its not one ring worth a million. its two. so each ring individually is worth 'only' hal f a mill!
sigh...

shhhh · 15/06/2008 22:33

But mrstm, Im sure they have advisors telling them where to invest their money for their future AND a ring can only increase in value. Its an investment.

My engagement & wedding ring were platinum and when dh bought me an eternity ring 3 years later the price of platinum had increased massively...and since having the ring designed and before we had even collected it the price would have been even higher had we just bought it iykwim.

shhhh · 15/06/2008 22:34

lol stitch "only"

She'll probably find it a comfort when Wayne is out on a 'grab a granny' night.

LMFAO

wannaBe · 15/06/2008 22:39

I do think his career is relevant though. given he probably has.. maybe 8, 10 years left before he retires (at the grand age of ... 35?) they need to plan ahead for their future. After all, he does not appear to have been blessed with enough inteligence to become a pundit, and management is hard to break into as well, so it's possible that the end of his career will mean the end of his earning potential.

As for the ring being an investment, well maybe, but given it's an engagement ring, it would have sentimental value too - there's no way I would sell my engagement ring as it means too much to me.

shhhh · 15/06/2008 22:46

Not even if you got into huge debt wannabe..?

I know what you mean about sentimental though..I agree...No idea what I would do if faced with a situation where I had to sell mine...in fact I wouldn't want to sell any of my rings as all 3 have some meaning.
Although doubt this would ever be relevant to Mr & Mrs Rooney .

Marina Hyde regailed the story of how Liz Taylor was at a dinner party and Princess Marg was also there. As everyone else admired her ring [oh-er] Princess Marg pipped up, 'That is the most vulgar thing I have ever seen!'

"Not missing a beat, Liz urges her to try it on.

"There," she smiles sweetly the minute the rock has been jammed onto a sturdy Windsor finger, "Doesn't look quite so vulgar now, does it?"

What a wit!

Nbg · 16/06/2008 09:35

Why would they think twice about spending that much though?

He probably earns half a million in 2 weeks or thereabouts.

Regardless of how much money you have, you buy what you can afford.
They can afford to buy their own country probably so thats why they've spent so much.

They do a fair bit for charidee though.
