Shampoo - coloured hair recommendations

Since my previous shampoo changed formula (Elvive, red bottle) and is now terrible, I’ve struggled to find a high street alternative, so think I’m going to have to up what I usually spend.

What do people use for coloured hair (and what to avoid?). For reference, I have dyed, (naturally brunette/greying) thick hair and I’m a maturer mn-netter.

Thank you.

I’m also an older mumsnetter with thick coloured hair, mine is on the dry side. I use Wella colour brilliance, the shampoo and conditioner. But I also have Olaplex hair mask which I do once a week.

Maria Nila - tho depends what price you are wanting to go up to.

Thank you for your recommendations.

I did wonder about the Wella one. Good to have it recommended.

Not heard of Maria Nila before.

I had to ditch Elvive too. I’m trying tigi colour goddess. Good so far and it smells delicious.

Redken acidic shampoo and conditioner. Makes hair feel soft and glossy.its lovely. Get it on look fantastic.

Pureololgy Hydrate Sheer. It is specifically for fine dry coloured hair and it has made a world of difference (although it does take me twice as long to rinse out the shampoo than my Aussie days!)

John Frieda- I’ve met several hairdressers that rave about it.

I quite like the ogx one in the purple bottle, it's a biotin one I think.

Thank you for all your suggestions. Lots to consider.

Another regretting the Elvive demise- we had a whole thread on it.

Pantene Colour is working fine for me and cheap as chips.

Silverbirchleaf · 13/02/2026 20:20

Yes, I remember the thread.
