Advice Please: Returning Counterfeit Goods on Vinted

So my DS bought a jersey on Vinted. Sold by the seller as legit and an unwanted gift, the jersey is limited edition and sold out everywhere. I was sceptical as it was well below price, but anyway, not my money.

Jersey arrived, I have the exact same one so we cross checked the points of authenticity and it’s counterfeit. However, it’s a very good counterfeit.

He’s gone back to the seller and to Vinted. They’re pretty much saying he has to cover the cost of the return. This seems insane to me as it is counterfeit.

Would you push the seller to pay for this return and does that ever work for people?

Alternatively, I have told my son I’ll cover the cost of the jersey and we can send it, along with the sellers name and address, to the football club. It’s something they should be aware of anyway and this edition was a charity fundraising thing so even more despicable really.

Or, threaten the seller with the above, hope he pays postage and refunds the amount and forget about it.

What would you do? And experience with dealing with Vinted for things like this?

Just contact Vinted. They'll ask for lots of photos to evidence it, but if they think it's counterfeit they'll give you refund and tell you to destroy the item, and not to return it

Holdonforsummer · 09/02/2026 20:29

as far as I know, the buyer always has to pay the cost of the return. Just don’t ‘accept’ the purchase, dispute it and post it back as soon as possible. Good luck.

So he’s contacted the seller, who said Vinted pay the return. Then he went to Vinted and submitted a complaint with lots of images showing the issues and saying it’s clearly counterfeit. They have just said to return to the seller by the 14th, but that it’s up to him to cover the shipping. This can’t be correct if the goods are counterfeit surely?

That’s kind of my issue though, the seller has said they’ll accept the return, but it appears my son will be out of pocket for the shipping, which just doesn’t seem at all fair?

It’s so unfair isn’t it. Spent over £5 in postage to receive and then return counterfeit headphones. I got a quick refund for the item but vinted didn’t care about any of it. Sorry for your DS 🥺

Princessfluffy · 09/02/2026 21:07

This happened to me too. I had to pay the return postage which seemed wrong but there was no way around it. Same seller continues to sell lots of counterfeit items the same on Vinted. Vinted dont seem to care two hoots.

VintedReturns · 09/02/2026 21:09

Hmmmm… okay, not a good sign if others haven’t been able to recoup return costs either. It’s completely unfair, I really don’t see why he should be out of pocket when this person is flogging counterfeit goods.

What do ye think about just keeping the jersey and sending it to the Club with his name and home address? Is that too far?

I have just been through this.

I got the cost of the goods back + my original postage.

I had to pay £3.15 for the return postage. Vinted had no interest in my protestations about the return postage cost.

AND I have just checked and the seller has simply re-listed the item

So I bought a counterfeit item but it was a very good fake. I didn’t realise until after I accepted. I ended up doing a chargeback via my bank. Which then resulted in Vinted blocking me. It’s very common when you go on Reddit threats. It’s happened to many people. It’s a shame Vinted don’t have better controls.

Im
going through exactly this at the
moment, it wasn’t even a good fake, I pressed the wrong button! I sent photos including of the washing label saying to ‘dry fat’ but they have basically told me there’s nothing they can do even though the seller has disappeared, presumably because they know they’re selling fakes so I’ve had to start the cc clawback.
will be interested to see if they black me. It’s an outrageous platform.
I’m so sorry for your son op, its really awful.

I just don’t really understand how they can get away with it. I know it’s a marketplace and the sales are between individuals as opposed to between an individual and a company, but they are still facilitating the sale of counterfeit goods by not taking any action.

I think I’ll get him to complete a bank clawback as well, doesn’t appear he’ll have any satisfaction from Vinted or the seller. We can then send the jersey with the seller’s details to the Club.
