I was, shall we say slightly optimistic when I ordered a pair of black petite suit trousers from Reiss via John Lewis. Size ten. I ordered on Friday for an event tomorrow.
They arrived Saturday - woeful could barely get them over my calves let alone zip them up. So re-ordered in another more realistic size plus the next one up in case I was still about in denial. New sizes 12 and 14.
They just arrived - decided to try the 14s first - was hopeful they would slip easily on and possibly have a bit of spare space.
They barely got over my ankles! I checked the label - said 14. I then got the size 10s and compared. Exactly the same trousers. And the waist on the 14s was about an inch smaller than the 10s!
Gingerly tried the 12s - they do up and with a fair wind and not too much bending they might not split open.
I am not sure who labels the clothes - Reiss or John Lewis?!! Has anyone else had this?! I appreciate I was cutting it close when I ordered relative to the event but I wasn’t aware this was a risk with good old John Lewis!
Also it is slightly annoying as I don’t trust any of the labels now and don’t know whether I am in a size 12 or perhaps that is mislabelled and I am in a 14?! I don’t care in terms of the size as such but in a world where I mainly buy clothes online it would be nice to have some kind of benchmark for trousers that cost quite a lot and then some when you add on emergency dash delivery….
