Starting over with makeup

This is the year of making more of an effort to look polished…

I want a fairly natural but put together look. I’m 45, no wrinkles, good clear skin, fair with blue undertones, with some freckles. Blue/grey eyes. What are your go to makeup brands? I’d prefer cruelty free and don’t mind spending a bit but not megabucks. Thanks!

I'm currently obsessed with Estée Lauders concealer and powder, not to keen on their foundation though. Also loving Charlotte Tilburys Magic eye mascara. I've used Max Factor last performance foundation forever but struggled to find a better one. Also really like Fenty lip stains and oils, Pixie liquid blush/highlighter

Charlotte Tilbury. I threw away all my 20+ years old make up and started from scratch. About £500, that’s from serum, day and night cream through to a new make up bag. Didn’t get a palette, I want to try it on first.

TheLongRider · 09/02/2026 19:51

I don't have one brand that I like, I go somewhere like SpaceNK , Superdrug or Sephora and see what's new and what I need at that moment. My makeup ranges from Lisa Eldridge to Revolution. There are so many new types of foundation, powder and mascara.

StylishAndBeautiful · 09/02/2026 19:52

Estée Lauders concealer is worth the money.
Boots No 7 Stay Perfect is great
I like Rimmel and Seventeen for every day.

StylishAndBeautiful · 09/02/2026 20:08

Essence and elf are both good and inexpensive.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/02/2026 21:21

My holy grail products are:
Nars tinted moisturiser
Estée Lauder Futurist foundation and concealer
Nars cream blush
Mac Teddy eyeliner
Mac brown eyeshadow single that I can’t remember the name of
Clinique Black Honey or one of two Chanel lipsticks, one red and one sort of natural lip colour
It used to be Benefit Rollerlash mascara but it’s too black and spidery for me now so I need to replace

Azuresky68 · 09/02/2026 21:29

I have tried many brands over the years. These are my basics now - Clinique Even Better foundation and Clinique lashpower mascara - doesn't budge all day but comes off with water , Maybelline 24 hour lipcolour, Benefit Hula bronzer, Elf primer, Number 7 eyeshadow pencils - last all day long, Nivea or Aldi moisturiser, Nivea cleanser. Really happy with my makeup 😍

Charlotte tilbury, I didn’t want to give in to the hype for a long time and then I bought it and I get it. Lovely flawless natural glow. Not caked in make up looking, if that makes sense.

Following with interest as have similar plan to op.
Has anyone tried Jones Road? I am tempted by the adverts…

GameOfJones · 10/02/2026 07:41

You're a similar colouring to me..... I'm pale with cool undertones and blue eyes. I really love my make-up at the moment and these are the products I use.

Clarins beauty flash balm as a primer.

Erborian CC cream instead of foundation (shade Clair)

Givenchy Prisme Libre solid setting powder (the palest one)

Elf camo liquid blush in the lilac shade (you only need the tiniest bit as a little goes a really long way.)

Elf Xtender tubing mascara in brown

Laura Geller jelly balm tinted lip balm (I've got a few shades so I can swap things around depending on my mood.)

I've then also got Rimmel Scandeleyes eyeliner pencil, a Nars creamy concealer and Urban Decay setting spray if I want a more "done" make-up look for nights out.

Mixed reviews on here. I've not tried it.

I bought the dusty rose set and it's terrible. The lipstick and eye shadow are so dry they're unusable. The liquid tint I like but overall I was really disappointed, completely put me off the brand.

StylishAndBeautiful · 10/02/2026 11:41

Rimmel Scandeleyes eyeliner pencil - it stays put.

The eyeliner is good. I hate the miracle balm it’s like wearing Vaseline on your face.

circlesquarestar · 10/02/2026 12:26

I love Jones Road miracle balm, I use it for blush and bronzer, it’s subtle and makes your skin look radiant. You can layer it if you want more. I recommend Ilia lip crayons as well, they are chubby and very cool or neutral toned, natural colours.

Lourdes12 · 10/02/2026 12:43

on my face I just use Garnier solaire anti age spf 50 followed by bare minerals rescue moisturising tint. This gives a very natural look on the face. For eyes I just use mascara and a brown/grey eye shadow along upper and bottom lash lines instead of eyeliners. Gives a very natural look
