Plouise - what fresh hell is this??

DD is 9 and came home from a party at the weekend talking about Plouise lip balms. I googled thinking I might get her some as her lips are very dry in winter but Confused they all say bad bitch on them? Shes 9! And judging by the pictures online of the Plouise Empire (ie the shop) she’s actually on the older end of their target demographic.

I feel very old.

I think it looks really cute, saw someone unbox the advent calendar on youtube once. Assumed it was very much for teens, slightly shocked by pp's teens request for clinique!

FullLondonEye · 09/02/2026 18:48

I kept hearing about Plouise so I looked it up in case my 11 year old daughter might like one of their events. It turns out the Plouise 'look' is that hideously over made up, fake look that you see on reality TV stars or influencers. A fucking trailer load of base, concealer, highlighter, contour etc. That very fake look 0 huge lashes, overdrawn caterpillar brows. There's no way in hell I'd let my daughter anywhere near that. No chance I will ever buy any of their products and will use pictures for my daughter as an example of how NOT to do make up. She's not really into influencers yet and hasn't been exposed much to that look and when I first showed her she asked what was wrong with the woman's face and she thought it looked pretty painful, fortunately. I cannot understand why anyone would want to look like that or allow their children to.

My 9 and 11 year olds love it. My turning 12 is going there for her birthday. Excellent business woman. Making an absolute killing. The shop and cafe are designed to kids of that age with games and competitions. Looks like a money making dream

Newyearnewmewoooop · 09/02/2026 18:52

I was going to have my 10 year olds birthday party there but when I got a quote it was over £1000 for a few kids 😆

Really not, I did P Louise make up courses and most doing them were my age no one young was in there.

Clearly you have not seen their current marketing. It's no longer make up courses and professional makeup. They just collaborated with an 11 year old "influencer" called Lacey. Look on Tiktok, it's disgusting and exploitative.

I’ve got 3 of there key ring lip oils / lipsticks on my keyring and none of them have bitch on them I just checked

If you look on the website the description and the packaging they come in says BAD BITCH ENERGY. I spose OP could remove them from the packaging if its not on the actual lip balms. Seems a rip off to me though. Why can't kids like Burts Bees?! 😅which are on the dearer side of the lip balms.

PineappleGummyBear · 09/02/2026 18:59

It's really cheap, nasty crap. I can see why kids would want it, but I wouldn't want that near a child's skin, let alone mouth.

Tulipvase · 09/02/2026 19:02

I’m clearly very old as I thought Plouise was someone’s name that you were commenting on.

Pinkgin00 · 09/02/2026 19:03

They used to do makeup courses ( all very heavy glam looksl , it was definitely aimed at professional MUAs in the past. I dont think the brand could ever compete with the likes of MAC, Bobby Brown, Charlotte Tilbury though, it isn't a classy or luxurious brand.

Now its aimed at kids and massively overhyped and tacky.

scoobydeedoo · 09/02/2026 19:05

It's depressing that there are 11 year old "influencers". I know I'm probably old and out of touch, but I don't understand why any parent would let their child be an influencer, being constantly online with god knows who following them, all for likes and followers and "going viral" 😒

MidWayThruJanuary · 09/02/2026 19:14

Lacey has 97 thousand followers on Instagram.

ImADelightActually · 09/02/2026 19:38

I came across this brand a few years ago and it was mostly people in their early/mid 20s ish promoting it, over the last year it’s almost always children who seem to be 8-10 I see doing the sponsored ads and unboxing.

I have no interest in seeing child influencers or the tik tok shop ads where it’s a mother and daughter account but it’s almost all the child being handed freebies to unbox and promote, I don’t get many on my feed and when one does, I block, but I have an 8 year old neice who was begging for her stuff for Xmas, she didn’t get any bought, her dad bought her an actual child’s toy make up set for her 8th bday (last month) and she has had some of the girls who did get Plouise laugh at her for having “baby” make up.

I kind of think it’s the same type of energy that the mums of children who are put on beauty pageants, dance mums and child models etc have, having children working as influencers is very easy accessible for that type of parent who wants their child to be part of these popularity things. It’s less regulated I guess too.

A question from an observer please and thank you ...

Do you pronounce it Plouise or Pee Louise ?

usedtobeaylis · 09/02/2026 19:49

My friends 7 year old asked for Plouise lip balms, so I looked it up and thought it generally looked like overpriced nonsense. All the ones in my 10 year old's class though seem to be into the Carmex squeezy lip balms.

P Louise is huge on social media and with the tween market right now, from what I've seen online she had some good make up courses when starting out and some really good products but it's got quite chaotic now. I think the company is hiring people who look good on social media or have a social media following whereas they really need experienced people in law, PR and marketing to get them in the right direction. She's had a few scandals lately like selling pyjamas that were meant to be 100% cotton but turns out they weren't, than her event at Trafford centre that didn't happen as they didn't get the permits in time, than most recently she did a line with a child influencer, said influencer than had a birthday party where anyone could buy tickets and there's been a lot of backlash on this now.

blankcanvas3 · 09/02/2026 20:38

When Paige first started the company ‘P Louise’, they had really excellent products. A genuinely game changing eye base and some other stuff that was really aimed at professional makeup artists. Not quite sure what changed but everything she produces now is awful, so overly scented and the packaging etc is aimed at children as I don’t think any self respecting makeup artist would bother now. The ‘empire’ is aimed at kids, the bizarre christmas events are for kids, the fragrance of the products are for kids too. Agree with PP about Lacey on Tiktok, her mum clearly had her when she was extremely young and now they’re exploiting her. I can’t believe that you would publicly sell tickets to your child’s birthday party - anybody could have shown up!

That’s weird. Its the very young who are the target market

StephensLass1977 · 09/02/2026 20:50

Gosh. I started wearing makeup at 18, and had only ever heard of The Body Shop and Rimmel. Foundation only came in dark or light so I had to buy both and mix them together, to still end up with a crap result. At the risk of sounding 100, they really don't know they're born nowadays!

booksunderthebed · 09/02/2026 21:19

I flew several times in November-december on evening flights from manchester to Dublin.

Every time there was a similar phenomonon on each flight. 2 or 3 women with assorted little girls, (aged approx 9-11?) each carrying a bright pink shopping bag with the letters PL on it. Girls all dressed in pink as well.

I couldn't figure out which shop this might be, depsite googling the initials. I assumed some sort of toy shop. Must be very special for mothers to bring their daughters on day trip from Ireland to visit. (on a school day - it was a midweek flight)

I got more and more curious each time I saw this. Eventually I went up to one of the mums and asked her what shop this was and she told me it was a makeup shop called Plouise.

Pretty sure Arnotts and Brown Thomas sell excellent make up that don't require enduring the joys of Ryanair so its clearly all about the branding and social media and nothing to do with quality...

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 09/02/2026 22:23

My 12 year old niece was big into it and I got her some stuff for Xmas and she was delighted. My 10 year old dd is oblivious to it. I’ve just bought niece some more stuff for her birthday next week- am really hoping she isn’t too old now she’s about to be 13! I didn’t realise the target market was younger

Ohhh ballonz. Where are you now?
