What trainers can be considered smart, work appropriate - if any?

I work in a corporate environment, senior manager, Customers visit office. My usual formula on days without external meetings are dark jeans and a blazer, with a cami or t shirt underneath. Sometimes, I mix it up with a blouse, or a dress, or a skirt and jumper, keeping some items smart, and some casual to not overdo it and look out of touch with more relaxed office wear now.

I have always worn heels and mostly wear kitten heels, but my bunion is a killer and I am struggling to find shoes that fit a dainty ankle and allow room at the front. All the bunion friendly shoes look frumpy and I do not like loafers. Ballerina squeeze my toes too painfully. This leaves me with trainers and my Adidas Speziale are so, so comfortable. But I am not sure if they are work appropriate? Any other recommendations would be much appreciate. I am a petite size 8 if that makes a difference.

These: they are available on other colours

I'm thinking of buying this from Next - Russell & Bromley Blue Pear Laceless Trainers

Adidas spezials or gazelles are widely worn in my office by pretty much everyone apart from c-suite. Actually even c suite on a normal day

I have a few pairs from Moda en Pelle. Really soft leather and super comfy. I have black, leopard and pewter pairs but they have a great range of colours and styles.

Agree. I have 5 or 6 pairs, including a raspberry pink which are fab!
But the most work-appropriate are black but with gold hardware eg the holes for the laces.

I wear my Spezials to work and lots of people do (corporate, Canary Wharf office).

I like the bridge trainers from Hoff, I think some of them are very smart. I got the navy velvet ones and love them and they are so well made and comfortable.

I wear spezials in various colours to work, as do lots of my colleagues. I work for the local education authority.

I've just ordered these for work. Swap out the laces for black ones and they look very shoe-like, particularly from the top view, which is whatost people see.

Edited

I got these today and love them. Very comfortable

I work in a corporate environment too. Also have a bunion and wide feet

I commute in trainers but do change when at work. Trainers are not really ok where I work. I’ve bought some barefoot ballet flats from happy little soles. There’s also a couple companies that sell shoes good for bunions such as calla shoes and Sargasso & Grey.

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 14/02/2026 22:06

I’d rather wear Spezials that go with my outfit than some of the black “comfort” shoes.
You can get some really interesting adidas colour combinations, fabric combinations that would look much more put together than some Clark’s kids shoes.

I love the Kurt Geiger and carvela trainers. They can look smart ish with a touch of sparkle/metallic.
Buy either direct or from the Shoeaholics website which is their ‘outlet’ online store.

Edited

I second this. I love my Kurt Geiger ones from shoeaholics in a sort of nude/blush colour. I wear them for work in the warmer months with wide leg trousers.
