What to wear for Norwegian Fjords Cruise?

As the title says, I’ve booked but have no idea what clothes we need during the day (am assuming I have a handle on evenings on the ship). Jeans? Gym gear?

I’ve already got an anorak on my list.

Jumpers/ fleeces. Fleece lined walking trousers, gloves, snood/hat. Big smile as you see the fjords. 😁

What time of year? I went last august and it was very hot when we left Southhampton and all the way to Belgium - as we headed into the North Sea it was pretty cold when we were cruising. In the fjords it was cooler but not freezing. I would say pack layers!

Late May/start of June!

Layers.

On board and ashore jeans, chinos, walking trousers etc. all suitable. On sea days I go with straight leg joggers.

Waterproof jacket, hat, scarf and gloves. If you want to walk irrespective of the weather waterproof trousers and shoes/boots.

Also take suntan lotion, hat & sunglasses. I got sunburnt by not being prepared.

If you are a gym bunny then gym gear and depending on the ship swimwear for the pool/jacuzzi.

If you are going to Flaam the railway is a must.

Late May/start of June!

Perfect time with really long hours of daylight and the waterfalls are full.

Ooh funnily enough I was thinking to post a thread asking this as we are going to the fjords (but at the start of April). Will hang out in here for general ideas 😀 Enjoy your trip OP!

Which cruise line? Cunard is quite dressy, princess moderately so , the others not so much. So evening wear …

wheresthesnowgone · 07/02/2026 22:18

Following with interest as we're going mid may with P&O

Twilightstarbright · 08/02/2026 07:33

Oh I’m glad this is useful to other people!

I feel relieved as I have a lot of what is mentioned- waterproof trousers are a football spectator staple as are fleece lined trousers. DS has shot up though so I’m off to Vinted to get him sorted.

We are going with MSC. I’d love to do Cunard one day but from what I can see MSC isn’t hugely strict so I will wear a scamp and dude dress with smart heels (have this packed as attending a wedding before the cruise).

I went last year in April. I took just about everything because you need dressy clothes, light casual clothes and warm clothes for the fjords.

And not S&B at all but excursion advice much appreciated! @Kirschcherries Flaam railway is booked but I have Alesund and Gerainger to figure out. DS is 9.

We went a couple of years ago. Same time of year. On one day we had snow, sunshine, hail. Fantastic scenery.

Going again later this year. Layers & waterproofs are key. I take magnetic hooks with me, to put on the walls, to hang up coats and fleeces.

edit: forgot to add cruise critic MSC boards and roll calls are your friend, for excursion advice and possibly sharing them.

Lots of layers and plan for everything! We went in August 2024 and needed sundresses and ski suits 🤣

You’re going at a lovely time.

@Twilightstarbright On the Flaam railway if you can sit on the right side of the train particularly coming back down (when it becomes the left side if you know what I mean)as it has better views. The waterfall is on the left but they stop so everyone gets a good view.

Twilightstarbright · 11/02/2026 21:03

Have ordered the new Scamp and Dude anorak in anticipation!

Sunburned in Southampton and soaked in Norway in mid-June. Layers and waterproof shoes/coat are a definite must.

MSC is pretty casual but don't forget something white to wear for their white night party. Enjoy.
