Comfortable shoes

I’ve just spent a couple of days in London, lots of walking around obviously. I wore my Skechers shoes which are normally really comfy, but my feet are on fire!
im planning a city break later this year and looks like I’m going to have to rethink my footwear. Any recommendations for unbeatable walking shoes please?

Hoka Bondi 9 trainers, like walking on bouncy clouds. Expensive but worth every penny.

MTOandMe · 05/02/2026 20:07

On Clouds!

Fitflop. Or my Brooks running shoes.

Surely most people are wearing boots at this time of year?

I don’t own any boots except some scarpa walking boots! I don’t like them!

My partner favours the On Cloud as mentioned. I ended up buying Vionic trainers after a bad case of plantar fasciitis and they were a dream doing sightseeing in Italy.
Boots, I bought some from Fly, again amazing when I had PF.
I found Skechers were too flexible with not enough arch support so hurt my feet too.

Is it the look or feel you dont like? My Scarpa boots are my most comfortable footwear. I'd wear them for walking in the city.

Scarpa killed my feet too. Created huge pain across the ball of my left foot and I lost 4 nails doing Snowden. In hindsight slightly too small. Now meindl....wow! However I wouldn't wear them on a city break.

My Josef Seibel boots are very comfortable but that might be because it's a brand that fits my feet well so I tend to stick with them

No! I like my scarpas but they’re for my hiking and are mostly covered in Peak District mud! However, I hate how normal boots look on me and the style of clothes a wear just wouldn’t look right with boots of any sort!

For everyday city walking, pretty much all my current footwear comes from Grenson, @Computadora. Very comfortable shoes and boots, and almost indestructible:

(Not sure if they’ve had a change of designer recently, as I’m not loving some of the latest collection. But I’ve had years of excellent stuff from them.)

Last pair of skechers I had the soles literally collapsed while I was on a city break, had to buy new shoes.

Can't beat FitFlop for shoes that feel fine for hours, and they do a lot of different styles now as well

mynameiscalypso · 06/02/2026 15:47

I wear Adidas Run 70s and they’ve served me well on many city breaks. That said, I try to bring several pairs of shoes and alternate (trainers/boots/loafers) of I can because I’ve never found it very comfortable to wear the same pair of shoes for several days if there’s lots of walking involved.

Brodiedog · 06/02/2026 16:13

Another vote for Hoka, you need to size up.

beebee25 · 06/02/2026 20:28

Oofas trainers and flip flops are amazing

Hayley1256 · 06/02/2026 20:30

Hoka and new balance are my faves for city breaks. I always take another pair of shoes with me though as my feet do not seem to like wearing the same show for multiple days

ChocoChocoLatte · 08/02/2026 11:03

Fitflops

user593 · 08/02/2026 11:29

I bought Hoka Transport (in the sale) in anticipation of a holiday in a couple of months. I have very difficult feet (they hate any kind of closed shoe!) and I find these so comfortable!
