Boycott Debenhams!

i have spent OVER SIX WEEKS trying to get a refund from Debenhams for two bottles of aftershave I purchased as Christmas presents that never arrived. I cannot believe how disgustingly appalling their ‘customer service’ is. I feel like I’m going crazy! Countless emails, msgs, even trying to contact them via instagram, and nothing! Just holding emails saying ‘we’re busy, we’ll get back to you’ and they never do! I will NEVER buy from them again. Unbelievable!! I’ve lost over £150!! Bastards!!

I've heard that using the site Resolver can be successful in getting these things sorted. A friend of mine used it when Boohoo insisted on refunding her to a gift card - an option she hadn't selected. It was fixed within a week when she raised it with them.

Boohoo and Debenhams are owned by same people. I wouldn't touch them with someone else's bargepole these days.

If you paid by debit/credit card, also look into a chargeback.

And yet, no matter how many times people are told, there’s always someone rushing to suggest this unspeakable entity whenever a poster wants a dress for an event.

🤷‍♀️

Did you pay using a credit card? If so, do a chargeback request.

Lemondessert · 03/02/2026 04:15

I had similar but when I contacted them to complain the refund hadn’t appeared in my account it magically appeared. Also a nightmare to return products as they were not official Debenhams products. They also looked nothing like the website photo.

There was another thread about Debenhams and to be very careful as there is a box ticked that charges you extra for some delivery insurance.

I wouldn't use Debenhams like I wouldn't use Frasers/Sports Direct.

Had the same with House of Fraser/Sports Direct. It’s insane how bad it is. It felt like a scam. It never got resolved and I just accepted the loss. Awful experience.

It took me 2 months to get a Debenhams refund, I used Resolver. I had also paid via PayPal and raised a case.

crumpetandcoffee · 03/02/2026 06:20

Same happened to me with a faulty kettle I returned. I only got a refund by emailing chief exec after 8 weeks waiting. d[email protected]. Try doing this. It was about 6 months ago now so hopefully the email is still valid. The Debenhams name fooled me but the company they are now bears no resemblance at all to the original Debenhams. I would never buy anything from them again.

Magnoliasunrise · 03/02/2026 07:05

yes I had the extra delivery insurance of something like £5 they added on without me noticing - they ignored all my requests for it to be refunded, I would never buy from Debenhams again.

Iwilldoitnowinaminutemam · 03/02/2026 07:44

Same for me sadly. I'm the end the only way I could get a return actioned was via Facebook messenger. Countless emails and what's app just responded via bot or just asking me the same questions over & over. So frustrating! I think it was about 8 weeks before I finally received a refund

Wendywooooo · 03/02/2026 08:25

As long as you can show you have tried to contact them (and in this case there are multiple instances of that) you should be able to claim back via your bank.

Last time I did it the bank put the money back in my account the same day, the seller had 30 days to dispute it, which they never did. Another time a seller did, and the bank asked me for some emails, which once I forwarded to them they closed the sellers claim.

Chachacha2 · 06/02/2026 22:29

By way of an update. I have FINALLY received a refund via my bank. No word at all from Debenhams. Absolute bastards. Six weeks and nothing. I will be purchasing the aftershave’s again from a more reputable company in person. I will NEVER use Debenhams' or any associated company ever again and I wound advise everyone to do the same!
