Recommend me an LED Face Mask

PeonyPatch · 01/02/2026 22:07

Hey fellow mumsnetters 👋

Well, call me influenced… but I am really wanting an LED face mask this year and I’m thinking to treat myself for my birthday. This 35-year old skin is need of some TLC.

Can anyone recommend one? Everyone keeps mentioning Shark, but I’m not sure, I’ve heard some mixed reviews on it!

Thanks!

Current body I believe is the gold standard, I have it and love it

GrimDamnFanjo · 01/02/2026 22:35

I have the CurrentBody V2 - it does well in independednt research.

Lucia573 · 01/02/2026 22:36

What difference do you see in your skin after regular use? Also interested in these! (Though I am older.)

MaJoady · 01/02/2026 22:36

I have read that none of them actually work. The red light isn't strong enough in any of the domestically available masks to make a difference.

Interested to hear if anyone has evidence to the contrary though

GrimDamnFanjo · 02/02/2026 01:25

You need to be careful with the device you buy but several are at the correct strength https://www.theguardian.com/thefilter/2025/sep/19/best-led-red-light-therapy-face-masks?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

I’m seeing Current Body 2 come up a lot in recommendations and reviews as well!

I got the Shark one a couple of
months ago and chose it over the. Currentbody one because the price and wavelengths were much of a muchness, but Shark offered the eye cooling feature.

Yes my skin is better - but I wish I’d gone for the lighter Currentbody. The Shark one is so heavy that it’ drags down’ my aging face however I adjust the straps so I have to hold it out a little using my hands. I also don’t see any benefit from the eye cooling.

I’ve had a couple of these masks and I definitely notice less clear glowing skin if I stop using it for an extended period and I have very few wrinkles for my age. However , the absolute best one in my view that eliminated my dark under eye circles was the old cheapie Neutrogena one that I bought years ago in Boots to try to help my son’s acne. He never used it, mum did and wow. Unfortunately it was withdrawn from sale and you needed bespoke power banks to use it.

I opted for onw of these as a treatment. However I could not proceed as I had fillings.

Can you not use them if you have fillings?

I take it you mean tooth fillings?

Do you mean that a CACI or other electrical stimulation treatment hurt you because you have metallic fillings or braces etc? Because light masks shouldn’t do so. They don’t work that way at all.

I have the Shark one and have been using it for about 9 months. I feel my skin looks clearer/brighter and the eye cooling pads help the bags under my eyes.

As fine lines and wrinkles can’t be reversed, there’re still there but hopefully the mask is stopping them getting worse ditto the hyperpigmentation (which I’d had lasered but came back🙄)

As a pp said, it is a bit heavy but I tend to lie down whilst I use it (it’s 6 minutes)

twinklystar23 · 02/02/2026 08:00

Not sure what you want me to add? It was part of the initial assessment and I was declined on that basis.

It was a few months ago and I can't remember for definite the explanation given.

DaisyChain505 · 02/02/2026 08:02

I have the current body 2, I’d had it for nearly a year and I wasn’t happy with the battery life on it, I emailed their customer service and they replaced it without hassle.

twinklystar23 · 02/02/2026 08:06

Yes, that's right tooth fillings. Was a bit surprised as would have thought most people have at least one filling.

twinklystar23 · 02/02/2026 08:11

You may be right, I think it may have been electrical, it would make sense as electrics and metal fillings would likely interact.

goodytwoshoes123 · 02/02/2026 08:13

I’ve got the Shark one and I feel it’s made a difference for sure. I used to have a small patch of psoriasis on my forehead and that’s disappeared. I’m not sure if it’s down to the mask or because I’ve been taking collagen though

Are you sure it was for a led mask? You don’t usually have a consultation before you buy? There is no issue with led masks and fillings. Some dentists use led light therapy with their patients.

Whowhatwerewolf · 02/02/2026 09:30

I have the Dermalux Flex and love it however it was very expensive. It's definitely making a difference though.

Same. I have the neck/chest one too.

Do you have metal tooth fillings? I have composite I think… I have never heard of this exclusion for laser treatments and I’ve been having some for some years now.

Ooo how do you find the neck / chest one? I was in a Teams meeting today and I’m shocked at how bad my neck looks for my age. Think it’s genetics unfortunately as my mother has the same (but a lot worse).

@PeonyPatch It's had the same positive effect on my overall skin quality as the face one. It's too soon to say if it's helping with fine lines/firmness but I'm happy so far.

That’s great! I’m glad you’re happy with it 😊
