Wedding guest outfit - something special

Helpineedtoswimandwanttohide · 31/01/2026 07:09

My little sister is getting married in July, and I’d really like a special dress for the day. It’s been a while since I’ve been to a summer wedding and since having a child, so feeling a bit lost.

I’m 37, a size 16 and tallish at 5’8, with G cup boobs. I have dark hair and suit jewel tones - no pastel colours please! Really worried about ending up looking frumpy in some of the more classic ‘wedding guest’ outfits. I do like the idea of a maxi dress.

Any help gratefully received! Budget up to £300.

If you have dark hair you'll suit strong colours like red or electric/ cobalt blue I would imagine.

Why don't you book in to a free personal styling at one of the big department stores. They should start off by getting you a proper bra fitting, and if you have any bumps or lumps you want to smooth out, they can also sort out some shape wear.

I've gone for a very strong electric blue in the past. I find Reiss occasion wear really great.

I wore this 18 months ago to a wedding and it felt amazing. I was a size 14.

I am going to a wedding in June overseas and I am looking at this:

https://www.freemans.com/products/adrianna-by-adrianna-papell-stretch-satin-long-dress/_/A-31T273_8?utm_medium=PLA&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=GS%20-%20Womens%20-%20Dresses%20-%20%5BPMax%5D%20-%20%5BPLA%5D&ns_mchannel=PLA&ns_source=google&ns_campaign=GS%20-%20Womens%20-%20Dresses%20-%20%5BPMax%5D%20-%20%5BPLA%5D&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20281769669&gbraid=0AAAAADplBR_MTouHmTyDYurCDLziEIaBf&gclid=Cj0KCQiAyvHLBhDlARIsAHxl6xruWec_c__gLRz1ewUT1Kh0Np0a88bSzj7S5iDP2FqdDfCbLXygrpMaArQnEALw_wcB

I know it is very similar, but I won't know anyone at this wedding and I can't wear the Reiss dress again because I am now a size 10.

I'm sure some people think it is OTT but the wedding is in a 5-star mega posh hotel in Greece and I think the blue will go well with the sea backdrop.

Look at Scarlett and Jo dresses, available in various places but large selection on their own website and John Lewis. Perfect for your shape, ( similar to mine) comfortable to wear but also has hidden support where lumps and bumps might show. They do vibrant colours and are formal enough for a wedding without being too hot. Don't be put off by the site saying its plus size, they go down to size 12 and then on to much larger. Most of them are wrap style which is great for larger boob's.Well within your budget but people have commented to me that it looks like an expensive dress.

Oh I love this dress. It's out of stock in my size. I may keep a watchful eye on it.

I dislike evening wear for daytime weddings so would probably be looking at a sundress from the new Alemais collection. They’re over budget right now but might turn up on sale by summer. This one is on sale now but maybe not quite your preferred colours?

All these strapless/shoe-string strap styles are lovely but I’m not sure how useful they are. OP has a G cup bust which will need a good, supportive bra.

Ooh I like this one. Others a bit too halterneck which won’t be flattering on my chest I think

I really like all of these but colours a bit too wintery I think

No such thing. If they suit you, they suit you all year around.

Insufficient boob space.

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 01/02/2026 00:10

Never wear empire lines with big boobs. The waist seam ends up on your boobs instead of below them.

Big boobs doesn't just mean needing wider panels of fabric on the bust, it also means needing taller ones.

Urkye do day dresses cut for women like us. https://urkye.pl/dresses

I found that I had to size down in the waist compared to what I measured as.

Dresses designed for women with fuller bust

Large cup? No problem! In Urkye dresses a perfect fit at the bust is guaranteed

Yes the high neck and frills will also make me look quite matronly I think, beautiful dresses for the right people but not me!

I'm guessing you don't have G-cup boobs like the OP ...?!!!

Where do the posters G size boobs go?

StrawberriesandBrylcream · 01/02/2026 13:44

The first one OneHundredDays posted looks lovely, would work with bigger boobs and definitely itsnt too wintery.

I had a Hobbs dress for DD’s wedding, I then bought a lovely maxi dress for the party the day before which was phase 8 and I have bought from Scarlett and Jo which are great for larger busts. Try having a personal shopper at John Lewis maybe or just have fun looking - remember summer clothes haven’t come in yet so I’d wait a month at least
