Bright, plain colour, silk scarves...

I am pretty happy with my day-to-day wardrobe - it's very neutral, beige, chocolate brown, black, cream...

But it's come to my attention that brights suit me better (apparently I'm a 'Winter', very fair skin, very dark hair and eyes, high contrast features). I wore my one and only hot pink jumped recently and I was inundated by colleagues telling me how well I looked - which leads me to believe I usually look very unwell 😁

I don't want to jettison my whole wardrobe (and I like the colours I wear) - but I think I'd benefit from putting hot pink, emerald green, royal blue by my face - and my first thought is, scarves...

I can't find any nice, plain, lightweight silk scarves (ideally 70cm square, so I can wear them bandana style around my neck) - also, what other options do I have to put a pop of colour by my face (maybe lightweight polo necks, under neutral tops in winter)?

Any advice much appreciated!

I know you said plain, but boldly patterned scarves are much more versatile. Once you learn how to fold them and different ways of tying them, you can get several looks from one patterned scarf.

Hmm … What’s your usual style? It takes a special kind of person (even if naturally stylish and fashionable) to wear a plain square silk scarf and not look as if they’re pointing to the emergency doors.

Luckily, little knitted scout scarves are very fashionable right now. This sort of thing:

Sorry those are all a bit luxe - there are sure to be cheaper versions around but the good strong colours in lovely wool aren’t cheap.

BTW the first two sites are fabulous for bright clothes too. And have sales on at the moment. I’d agree with experimenting with accessories first. And then each season choose something zingy but ephemeral - a polo top for instance - from somewhere like Zara. Or a longer lasting t shirt / sweatshirt from Community Clothing.

(I have a hood, similar to this bright red, that I wear down, so it hangs around my neck over a dress or jumper. Looks fabulous as mere decoration even when the temperature doesn’t require a head covering.)

@BlueWorkDay I find I really benefit from having a pale coloured scarf next to my skin

but I also can't figure out how to do it without the air stewardess look, as a PP said. I ended up with round ones. Not ideal, but I just don't know how to make it work otherwise.

Have a watch of this - I quite like her approach (and her cats):

I wear scarves quite often and tend to follow a similar approach by just throwing them on and going with what I feel in terms of random knots or tying or tucking and it often changes during the course of day (as I fiddle around). No-one has ever suggested I look like an air stewardess (but if they did, I’d just laugh).

@HundredMilesAnHour i'm still getting strong flight attendant vibes from all of those, I must be that 5% she refers to

I really enjoyed the cats though - thank you
