I’m starting a new big girl job soon and I need some help with what I wear.

It’s sort of social worker adjacent, so nothing too corporate or expensive. I’m an 18-20, apple shaped with a large bust. Medium length brown/dark red hair, pale skin.

I have a few pairs of trousers that I think look nice (high waisted black, brown checked and navy/grey pinstriped, black jeans, mix of barrel shaped, wide leg and fitted) and a few skirts

I have a few tops/ cardigans that also fit well (burgundy, charcoal, olive) I love a black and white stripe.
I think I’m an autumn kinda person? Bright blue, red and yellow look terrible on me.

Can anyone suggest some new tops or T-shirts or dresses that would work for me? Unfortunately until I start working my budget is only about £150 for everything. I’d be happy with cheaper brands or Vinted. I’ve included photos from the internet of the kind of thing I already own. Thanks!

I also like the same colour look so wide leg trousers, jumper and cardigan all in navy for example

I have several smart wide legged elasticated trousers in grey, black, navy, check etc and wear same colour on top, either long sleeved shirt or thin jumper. Nice bag and a smart coat, nothing I own is expensive!

I can only remember the infamous leather trousers & leopard-print heels ... She was a style icon though, compared to the slob Johnson ... Our female PMs - & MPS - get a much harder time of it!

Huge metal chain link necklaces iirc. Not nice. She had a couple of nice Westwood jackets though iirc.

Another dress (as you'd asked about tops & dresses specifically, OP) that might be quite versatile & is burgundy, a colour you like. It's Seasalt, which will have a lot in your size & colour palette. Lots of greens, deep reds/rusts etc - best avoid the patterned stuff though as it's usually quite frumpy & dated looking imo ...

It's actually only a bit more to buy new as it's well-reduced in the sale. Looks really nice with the tan boots & bag?

Also Seasalt. A really nice shade of green that will go with dark denim, navy, black.

I realise that full price these will eat up a fair bit of your budget - but if you try some styles on in store to get an idea of fit etc, they come up on Vinted/eBay frequently.

Boden also does 20/22 in sizing & I think it's good for plain tops/blouses that have a little bit of interesting detail (I'd also mostly avoid their prints too).

Again, too much of a hit on your budget right now - but this sort of thing & you can keep an eye out on Vinted/eBay. I'd rather pay £25 for something that was originally £95 new (from Boden/Seasalt/Autograph etc), than £25 for something new in Tesco.

Serena Pleat Neck Top-Green Fir

This gorgeous boho-style top has classic shirt qualities without the fiddly buttons. The intricately pleated neckline, full sleeves with smocked cuffs and a relaxed shape (crafted from pure cotton) elevate it further.

I find the cut of Autograph clothes better than standard M&S stuff. This winter they've had some great pieces & colours too. Have a look at their knitwear in store then search on Vinted/eBay. This colour would be great for you, worn with your checked/plain trousers? It's a sort of pinkish camel?
