Size 18 mini skirts?

Style advice please! So I have good legs and id like to wear a short skirt but how do you wear a mini skirt without your bum on show when you are an 18! Knee length isn't flattering as I dont wear heels. Long makes me look frumpy. Can you even get seam free tights?

I am a huge fan of the short skirts/dresses with opaque black tights look in Winter. I opt for bare legs and midi length in Summer.

I’m 50 and wouldn’t never do short skirt/ bare legs even though I have great legs. As I once read, “it’s not your legs that determine whether you can wear certain clothes, it’s your face” and I think that’s true.

@Beekman do your tights have a seam? I love that look but my tights all seem to have a seam

Opaque tights don't have a seam 🤔

FlatErica · 29/01/2026 06:48

Is this your first time wearing tights? Opaque tights don’t have seams, as PPs have said…

I have loads of opaque tights. None have seams. I used to like Snag, but now actually prefer Seasalt for sturdier sizes.

DD and I have a rule - just because they make it in your size , it doesn’t mean you can wear it.

I agree. Well, technically people can wear what they want but it depends if they care whether they look good or not. I've had 4 c sections. Would I look good in a crop top? No. I've only seen girls my daughter's age wearing a mini skirt recently.

What do you mean by seam?

A seam in tights runs from the heel to the top, at the back of the leg

Do you mean the reinforced bit at the top of the tights, round the gusset upwards or upwards from the top of the thigh?

Ive never seen tights with a seam personally, stockings yes

Or tights pretending to have a stocking look

The reinforced bit is in all tights

No one can see that bit though

HappyFace2025 · 29/01/2026 19:00

The black bit at the top isn't a seam. It's a reinforced section @HellybellyMelly and the only tights I've ever seen without it are extra sheet ones.
