If you're in your fifties and size 16 what do you wear?

I'm late fifties but look younger, size 16, apple, 5 feet 7 tall. I struggle with uncomfortable clothes, so at home live in leggings and long jumpers at the moment. When I go out I tend to wear stretch slim jeans with long jumpers.

I'm interested in what other people wear in their free time. Looking for new ideas, inspiration really. I like dresses with thick tights but struggle to find a style that suits me. I mainly go for jersey straight dresses knee length or just above with a v neck due to my 36FF boobs!

This is me, leggings and a top that covers my bum! I’m looking forward to your answers too.

Wide leg jeans/plain trousers, boots or trainers, v neck tops tucked in a bit, scarves and long coats at the moment.

I have some Next barrel leg jeans that aren’t too exaggerated a shape and work well on my barrel shaped legs. Grin
i’m getting a lot of wear out of a v neck cashmere jumper from Hush.
Boots or trainers.

I really struggle to find the right jumpers. I can't wear wool and don't like all acrylic as I get static "zaps" all the time.

I think there's 'wool' and 'wool'. I find lambswool unbearable but I'm fine with cashmere and merino.

Sadly I can't wear any of them.

A lot of Seasalt and White Stuff with the occasional M&S thing.

I don't think I'd dare try on barrel leg jeans, my fat stomach AND fat legs would be a sight!

That’s where the long jumper comes in!

At this time of year, I wear short skirts with thick black tights and various tops (mainly jumpers at this time of year) and short dresses, also with thick tights. I buy most of my clothes in the UK, rarely spend much, and get lots of compliments where I live now (the US).

NanFlanders · 20/01/2026 21:53

Popsy dresses and Snag tights!

I’m similar height to you and wear 14/16 and late 50s. I wear M&S palazzo jeans with jumper/sweatshirt with a bit of the front tucked in to accentuate my waist (French tuck?)
Also have several jumpsuits in cord, denim and cotton mostly from Next - I get lots of clothes on Vinted. And Joe Browns have some great dresses and jumpsuits too.
I love a maxi dress with pockets, Oliver Bonas is a favourite. Usually wear trainers or black Doc Marten type boots.

Short flippy and straight skirts with lots of coordinating jumpers and a few different coats that are the same length as the skirts. I wear thick tights and slouchy ankle boots. I also have a few jackets that go with the jumpers and skirts plus lots of different bags. I’m very happy with my Autumn/winter wardrobe, I need to a rethink for spring as I remember last year I didn’t have much.
