Old ear piercings

I have four piercings in each ear but for the last ten years have only worn earrings in the standard place in one hole apart from a few times a year.
one of the sets of piercings a mate did with a sterilised needle when we were goths!
whenever I wear earrings in those ones my ears feel extremely hot and uncomfortable.
the other holes are pretty much grown over but I can ‘pop’ earrings through, although it feels a bit painful.
what should I do if I want to wear lots of earrings again? Should I go to a jeweller and get fresh holes pierced? I’ve got big earlobes!
anyone been there? Thanks for the advice 😊

I would contact a proper piercer and ask them for advice.

Good idea, thank you

You need implant grade titanium or stainless steel earrings. My daughter had a piercing done at a really reputable place and I mentioned that I have never been able to wear earrings in my second holes for an extended period of time as they would always get inflamed and sore. The piercer explained that I was ok with one silver/gold pair but I would then need implant grade titanium or stainless steel for any subsequent piercings.

It worked... I now have thirds, a daith and a nose stud. As long as only one is silver/gold and the rest are - ideally - implant grade titanium I can wear lots of earrings with no issues. In fact my daith was the easiest piercing I have ever had.

Ok! This is exciting. So you think if I put the implant grade titanium in the existing holes it might stop hurting?

That's what I did... I was genuinely amazed. I'd had the holes for years, never been able to wear anything in them for more than a few days. Now have multiple piercings with zero issues. It was like a miracle!

I need to add - my mum was the same. She can now wear earrings but they need to be implant grade stainless steel or titanium. You can buy them anodized to a gold tone/colours if that's what you want. I wear silver versions and they aren't as bright, light silver as sterling but they still look great. I also wear a stainless steel aura ring on my thumb and no one has noticed that it is a bit different from the silver rings I wear.

Thanks so much. I’ll report back.

I have the same problem, I developed a metal allergy so most earrings turned my ears red and swollen within hours. I never had any problems with the jewellery my piercer used so I asked and they said it was made from a high grade of titanium. I saw an ad for crystal heaven london so I tried some and I've finally been able to wear earrings again for more than a day! it's been 6 months now and not a single issue 👍
