Hate my haircut

I always had short hair as a child and lots of my adult life but grew it about 6 or 7 years ago to below my bra strap. Over the last year I have had it gradually cut slightly shorter but always below shoulder length. Two weeks ago I asked for a shorter cut and restyle. I did say roughly how much I wanted off (3inches) and said I still wanted to be able to put it in a pony tail for when I am running, however my hairdresser took much more. The front is now so short it won’t stay tucked behind my ear. I also think it makes me look much older. I know it is only my hair but it has made me so sad. I know it will grow but it will take a number of years to grow to the length I miss and by then I will probably be too old to have long hair (sorry I know there isn’t an age limit to long hair!) Can anyone offer any tips or advice to help me come to terms with things or how I can encourage faster growth! Sorry I know this sounds pathetic. I never want to go to the hairdressers again!

I've had my fair share of bad cuts but also a whole array of different cuts and I think it's better to have given it a go than not change things up. You might have really liked it and now you know you don't, you've gained something. I personally think it can be ageing to have the same haircut for years.

And it really does grow back and pretty fast. It's not like buying a house, it's really not a major commitment.

i am just going to let it grow back but am worried about a big family wedding in July and what it will look like by then.
I have always been of the mindset that it will grow again so it doesn’t matter but am just upset that this will take a few years to put right.

It’s horrible when you have that experience at a hairdressers - I think everyone’s had similar experiences and it’s very annoying.

Obviously it will grow but in the meantime can you have it restyled? It could be that it’s just the style that doesn’t suit you.

Good luck!

I’ve been in this situation before and I ended up going to a different hairdresser and asking if they could do anything to help. She took out some of the layers which gave a better look, but then it was a waiting game.

Hair grows back much quicker than you think. It will be collarbone length by the end of the year and fitting into your ponytail within 3 months. Try not to think about it and maybe try out a few different ways of styling this new look. You might end up loving it!

I ended up teaching myself to do tape in extensions and it's been a game changer.
Probably costs about £60 for enough and a couple of hours swearing whilst contorting myself between mirrors but the result is hair that looks thicker and the length I wanted immediately.

If you don't fancy that and want immediate length I'd recommend a halo/wire extension piece.
