Jeans (NOT M&S please)

I’m 5ft 1 and looking for jeans that don’t swamp my frame. Low rise usually works best for me because I have a short waist to crotch length. Wide legs look terrible on me. I normally wear chunky ankle boots with a bit of a platform, so I want the hem to come all the way down and cover the shoe.

I don’t want anything slim, tapered, or cropped, but I also don’t want loads of extra fabric.

Please don’t suggest M&S jeans, they just don’t work for me.

I’d love something soft, budget up to £100. If you recommend something, please share a link to the exact pair that fits this brief rather than naming shops in general. Thanks!😊

Halara Jeans fits your bill

M&S short jeans are useless for me now, since they changed their measurements for what short is.
I find Next petite to be the best and they do a super soft version and various fits.
If you want to spend a bit more then Levi’s do a variety of leg measurements, down to 26” and were good quality.

Abercrombie & Fitch

Hush Agnes. Perfect alternative to skinnies.

BruisedNeckMeat · 18/01/2026 09:14

I think good old Levi’s are the best bet. There are so many styles and you can specify the waist/length rather than just picking a size.

At 5ft 1 a 30 inch leg would probably work for you.

Judellie · 18/01/2026 09:26

I'm going out in a minute but actually Levi's were where I got my last ones (roughly same height as you) tho the ones I got in the shop were better than the ones I got online from them. They fit better, probably because the saleswoman could see me.

YellingAway · 18/01/2026 09:52

I got the hush Agnes ones recently. First ever purchase from there and very impressed.

Uniqlo and they trim it if too long

Shatteredallthetimelately · 18/01/2026 14:22

Bonmarche do a range of different lengths and styles.

Levis low loose! I am your height and have 2 pairs one in light wash the other in the dark wash. I love them and get compliments all the time. I gave up on m&s jeans as well, honestly best jeans ever.

DualPower · 18/01/2026 16:42

@Sunnycats. I have tried those jeans and there was so much about them that was right. I particularly appreciated the low rise. What didn't work for me was the lack of shape of the baggy leg. I think I need a more fitted thigh, but don't necessarily want a bootcut or an obvious flare.

Was also coming on to say Hush.

Lovely jeans!

Duckchops · 18/01/2026 18:29

As someone who is also short (slightly taller but none of it in my legs) I would suggest that you look at Ariat. Now, yes, it's predominantly a horse riding brand, but it also does jeans

I've recently bought some denim breeches from them and am hugely impressed, very comfortable and well made, excellent fit. They are mid rise and it's so nice to not have a Simon Cowell waistline!

I'll be getting their jeans next. They have an assortment of cuts and, most importantly, an assortment of lengths with a decent size guide. I've already dug out the old belt I kept from my long worn out favourite jeans and polished the buckle ready 😆

TheOGCCL · 18/01/2026 20:33

Next is better than M&S if you want a lower rise. Most of the styles in M&S are high.

I got some relaxed slim last year, something like that or as per PPs a straight leg, but not all straight legs are equal.

Came to say the same! Another vote

Have you looked at Levis Shaping bootcut?

Hollister has quite a few low-rise jeans in short leg.

My 5ft 1 daughter has just got a pair, hers are wide leg but there are straight and loose available too.

Only about £50.
