Can I wear velvet to a daytime wedding in April?

I’n trying to find a dress for a wedding in April but it’s proving to be a bit tricky. I’m breastfeeding at the moment and finding anything breastfeeding friendly is a struggle. It’s a close family wedding so I want to look as nice as is possible at 3 months post-partum and much larger than usual. I really dislike the standard jersey nursing dresses that seem to be the only thing available.

I picked up this dress in Sainsbury’s earlier in the size I’m hoping to be by then, but I’m not sure velvet is appropriate for the time of year?

I don’t love it but it’s the best I’ve seen so far!

Yes I think you can wear that dress it’s a lovely colour.

Have you looked at Yumi? I got a nice wrap dress from there in the autumn for a wedding when I was about 6 weeks pp and that was good for breastfeeding. They have a lot of wrap options and quite a lot of button up ones too. If you don’t love this one then maybe have a look there, you deserve to feel great and it’s rare to have an opportunity to get all dressed up nicely when you have such small
children!

Ooh I’ll definitely have a look, thanks @Nomnomnew!

I keep getting ads for this dress which would be my dream choice, but it’s not available in anything bigger than an 8!

Yes of course you can

Yes it’s lovely and a beautiful colour. Definitely appropriate for a wedding, just because it’s April you don’t have to be in pastels with a daisy chain in your hair. People have become ridiculously prescriptive about wedding attire.

I like that and don’t think you need to steer clear of velvet, but any wrap dress can be moved aside to make way for nursing and there are TONNES of those. The other great thing about a wrap dress is that they’re very forgiving if you end up being bigger/smaller than expected as you just wrap it looser/tighter. In your position I booked a personal shopper appointment at a department store and asked them to pull breastfeeding-friendly things. I tried on a bunch of stuff and ended up buying something I never would’ve tried on that I felt great in.
