Funeral outfit advice

Hi all,

Please can I ask your advice while my brain isn’t working on full capacity. We lost our mum earlier this week to COVID. It was all very sudden we’re struggling to cope. All my thoughts are focussed on caring for my Dad, so I have no time for shopping, but want to do my Mum proud at her funeral. I have this dress from Joules, but it’s navy. Will it be ok? If so, what shoes would you wear? I can’t do heels due to a knee injury.

Thanks for your collective wisdom x

Looks perfect to me. Sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss. Looks smart and navy is fine. I think close relatives have more license than anyone to wear what they feel comfortable in/ know their relative would’ve liked. Loafers would work I think?

Lincolnlemons · 16/01/2026 22:14

So sorry for your loss OP. I think that’s a lovely dress. If you’re not keen on heels, I’d go with black loafers

Lovey dress OP, you will definitely do your mum proud. I’m so very sorry for your loss.

So sorry for you loss Flowers

The dress and it being navy is absolutely fine. Do you have a cardigan or blazer to wear over the dress? Tights and flats?

Unicornsandprincesses · 16/01/2026 22:19

Perfect. I’d wear with navy tights and black flats/loafers. A black or navy blazer, cardi or coat would be perfect on top.

sorry for your loss

I'm so sorry Flowers I've recently attended a family funeral in a flowery dress with a black background. It wasn't out of place; everyone was in black plus a colour.

Your Joules dress is very nice. Feel comfortable.

Motherofgingers · 16/01/2026 22:24

Thank you all. Ironically, the dress was a Christmas present, but it felt right.
I was thinking dark tights and loafers, so glad im
not off track. I also have a lovely blazer that will work with it.

Thanks again. It gives me one less thing to think about. X

If you are wearing a navy dress, I would stick with navy for your shoes and coat. You will look very smart.
Condolences.

I’m sorry for your loss. The dress, and how you plan to style it, are perfect.
