MAC Studio Fix

Hello, can anyone recommend a foundation like the old MAC studio fix solid foundation? They changed the recipe and the new one feels more "chalky " and doesn't go on as well.
Thanks.

I switched to Laura Mercier’s powder foundation from Mac. Disclaimer: I’ve not bought it recently, having started using liquid foundation and loose powder again. But the LM was good.

Can’t help but you’ve just reminded me about powder foundation, how I loved my Kanebo one

IlovePostitnotes · 16/01/2026 23:37

Thanks, I'll take a look at LM.

Yeah it’s all awful - and they stopped with the old concealer pots. No real solution - they really messed up

Revlon colourstay is a great dupe

Glad ive found this thread. I do not like the new formulation. Also, despite getting advice in store on which of the new shades corresponds to my old shade, its now coming up really orange for me. 😩 Bareminerals have a new pressed powder foundation and I liked their loose powder a few years ago, so I might give that a try.

Do you mind saying what sort of skin you have (age?)

IlovePostitnotes · 18/02/2026 22:10

Hi @Nofksleft2give , I'm 45, skin is normal to greasy, quite blemished in places so love how you can build the coverage. X

I got this instead after MAC changed the formula and the reviews were terrible.

Dirt cheap and great coverage.

Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 HR Compact FoundationMatte Buildable Coverage, Powder-to-Cream, Anti-Pollution Shields, SPF 20, Hyaluronic Acid, Waterproof, Hides Imperfections

I spent so much money on MAC. Wish I’d found this much earlier.

Thanks. Might give it a go.

Bareminerals didn’t suit my skin sadly, it made me itchy and lumpy. This was a while back though. I agree the customer service at LM is good.
What irks me about Mac, aside from the fact they seem to discontinue decent products at will, is they used to be relatively affordable. I found a foundation I liked and it was not far off £40.

IlovePostitnotes · 19/02/2026 21:51

Yeah, make up has got so expensive now.

I really like Rimmel too, even cheaper on Amazon. Be warned the pale shades are REALLY pale,I unusually had to go e up from the lightest shade.i repeat buy this.

IlovePostitnotes · 20/02/2026 22:39

I'll give the rimmel one a try...thanks for the recommendation.

I found the same with Studio Fix, I went back to using it a few months ago after a year or so of using Laura Geller powder foundation, and the new formula is horrible.
I Googled dupes for it and Collection Lasting Perfection came up and it’s pretty good for the price. It’s perhaps not quite as long lasting but at around £8 I’ll put up with that.
