Help me find THE perfect smart coat!

I’m looking for the perfect smart coat and I just can’t seem to find it anywhere!

Here’s the requirements:

  • Neutral colour - probably black or camel
  • Preferably wool
  • Tailored - I’m really short at 5’1 so anything oversized just looks ridiculous on me
  • Petite would be amazing but not essential if it’s not too long
  • It needs to fasten! So many just don’t close now
  • Budget is around £200 but I can go higher for the right one

Please help me find The One! 🙏🏻

Another vote for petite Hobbs Livia, if you can find reduced. It’s fabulous, pure wool, soft, hangs beautifully. Stocked in M&S and Next as well as Hobbs.

Reiss usually do nice long coats in neutrals.

Just bought this in plum and very happy with it!

Jaeger or Hobbs would be my go to.

I would think you'd need petite for the arm length...? I'm about that height and anything smart like a jacket needs to be in the petite range.

I’m a similar height, with narrow shoulders, and I have discovered Jaeger size 8 or 10 coats fit me really well and can be found on Vinted for bargain prices, eg https://www.vinted.co.uk/items/7820880860-jaeger-wool-camel-coat

OP, get a Hobbs Tilda coat, it comes in petite. I’ve got it in a lovely rich camel colour. Quite a neat fit, I sized up to get it to fit over my boobs but the petite cut is perfect. Nicer than the belted Hobbs one IMO.

Do you actually need a full length coat?

Im 5ft 1 as well ( and now really petite as I age )

I remember years ago I got a beautiful wool swing coat ( omg I loved that )

And yesterday I bought a Jaeger "pea coat "

Both coats ( back then and now ) are hip length which allows me some height. And tbh I dont need a full length smart coat - I drive or am passenger and I have parkers and waterproofs for times I need those

Being so short I find a full length hides/ swamps me

Another vote for the Hobbs Tilda coat! I've had it for years and it still fits perfectly and the material is really good quality too. It's definitely worth the price.

Came to recommend the Hobbs petite Livia- I have it in warm plum (I think) and I feel fabulous every time I put it on. So so beautifully cut and warm too. Just gutted I spend most of my day traipsing through muds and don’t get to wear it that often!

Thanks everyone!! Looks like I’m off to Hobbs this weekend
