eyeliner - where to start?

am more of a mascara girl but want to try giving the eye more definition.

round face, blue eyes, dark hair

never used it apart from sparkly purple eye liner back in the 80s

top or bottom? or both? or just a flick?
black or brown?

how big are your eyes? Hooded or not? Wide apart or close together? It isn't a one size fits all situation

You've got the same colouring as me and I wear brown eyeliner. Top lid only (mascara also brown and top lashes only). Rimmel scandeleyes is cheap and great.

If you are new to eyeliner I suggest staying away from gel eyeliners. They dry very quickly and are difficult to blend to soften. Anything like Avon Glimmer stick (I know, #oldskool) is much easier to work with. The Zoeva and Victoria Beckham eyeliners are similar. You don't have to spend as much.

I second the Victoria Beckham eyeliners. Really pigmented and easy to work with. There's loads of great eye liner tutorials on Instagram, find a make up artist who has a similar eye shape/colour to you for inspo.
