“ Brassy” with regard to hair . How does that differ from yellow or blonde and what’s wrong with it?
Smokey eyes… I always think it looks like you’ve smudged your make up!
Lowlights.. is that just having a darker colour put in?
Why you need primer and foundation and concealer and blusher and bronzer? Aren’t you just covering them all up?
How to dry my hair at the back! Ive watched loads of videos on how to dry hair smoothly but I can’t coordinate myself with brush and hairdryer in the mirror.. especially at the back.

Help please, I’m hopeless!

Brassy is just a very yellow, harsh shade of blonde, which a lot of people don't like.

Smokey eyes don't look like you've smudged your make-up if they are done well.

Lowlights - yes that's what they are.

Primer is a base which helps foundation go on smoothly, it's meant to have stuff on top of it. Foundation evens colour and skin tone. Blusher/bronzer go on cheeks or bits where your tan would be strongest if you had one. Concealer is for bits which need extra covering up, beyond what foundation does - e.g. blemishes, red patches, dark eye circles.

The hair thing I can't help you with. I can do it, but I don't know how to explain to you how to do it!

Came here to say exactly the same as @OttersMayHaveShifted ! My only amendment is that sometimes smokey eyes can look like you’ve smudged your make up but that is sometimes the desired look!

From personal experience I know that buying and applying primer is an art. Sometimes it makes my make up seem to fall off.

ChanceOfALifeLine · 03/01/2026 15:59

I was going to say the same as Otters. Except for the hair thing. I have no idea. I’ve decided that what my hair looks like from behind is just none of my business…

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 03/01/2026 16:06

The back of your head doesn’t matter really, people look at the front.

Brassy yellow hair looks more fake than more flattering, natural blonde shades.

Lowlights replicate the way natural hair looks- you don’t get one block colour with all shades the same. In the same way, highlights done well can look like the way your hair naturally lightens in some places from the sun, low lights put a few darker shades through to make your hair look more natural.

Depends on your hairstyle for drying the back, how is yours cut?

Sidebeforeself · 04/01/2026 15:53

It’s shoulder length no layers. So it looks odd if smooth at the front and tatty at the back

This is how I dry my shoulder length hair

after shower - put hair in turban and get dressed/ put moisturiser on
take off turban and comb through with some serum
get breakfast or do other stuff (basically let hair air dry as much as possible)
start all over hair drying - “rough drying” but try not to overly mess your hair or you are just unnecessarily frizzing it

when it’s at least over 50% dry - comb again and use a claw clip to section off the top 2/3
use a round bristle brush to pull hair straight and dry both sides, going as far round to the back on each side as you can

for the back section - put dryer down and use both hands to get the back bit on the brush and then pick up dryer
repeat through the sections to the top

Ive only just realised that I’d been using the wrong brush for years - a proper bristle brush really pulls the hair flat and makes it so much shinier
