Run out of Claire’s ear piercing cleaning solution! What can I use?

DD has just announced that her supposed 3 weeks supply of Claire’s ear cleaning solution has run out - at 00.30 1st Jan!

No way to get to buy more tomorrow, doubt our closest Claire’s is open anyway.

Anyone know what is best to use to clean her piercings with tomorrow? Salt water??
Also any recommendations for something I can buy as a replacement if not the Claire’s stuff?

Sea salt in boiling water, leave to cool.

or just saline solution from pharmacist

PurpleLovecats · 01/01/2026 00:44

Salt water.

But honestly, did you really get them pierced with a gun at Claire’s?

Tootingbec · 01/01/2026 00:44

Any brand of surgical spirit will do - they sell it in Boots and any high street chemist/pharmacy.

Fernand · 01/01/2026 00:45

Neil Med piercing spray. And please go to a proper piercer where they use a needle if she has any more done, they are far safer and more hygienic.

IceyBisBack · 01/01/2026 00:47

You are worried about after care from Claire's?

dementedpixie · 01/01/2026 00:47

Not surgical spirit!

I had my ears pierced at a jewellers in 1985. It was the only place you could get them done. We used surgical spirit.

No such thing as Claire or Claire’s solution. That’s so funny that they sell a “special” solution when they are just a plastic beads and hairband shop.

StCuntyMcCunterson · 01/01/2026 00:52

Salt water is fine. It should be sea salt but I’ve used table salt with zero issue.

piercings from Claire’s may not be ideal but why the fuck do sone of you really need to make comments about it to make yourself feel important? Give over.

murasaki · 01/01/2026 00:53

Getting your ears pierced at Claire's is about as sensible as asking a tree surgeon for a pedicure.

Salt in cooled boiled water will be fine. That's all you're over paying for at Claire's anyway, i suspect.

GoodVibesHere · 01/01/2026 00:54

Neilmed piercing spray, which you can get on Amazon.

ShetlandishMum · 01/01/2026 00:54

Water and soap is fine.

My DD’s both got them pierced there and it was fine. What’s the problem?

murasaki · 01/01/2026 00:59

Guns really aren't the best way, they're often wonky.

OverlyFragrant · 01/01/2026 01:03

I'm notoriously bad for healing with piercings. Slow to heal and always low level infection brewing.
I had my ears pierced, 3rd time lucky, and used a vet antiseptic spray, leucillin. Healed beautifully with absolutely no issues.

Ooohhh - why not? It’s my go to for cleaning minor wounds and the like 😳

I was wondering that, it's what we were told to use in the 90s, and none of mine ever got infected. Maybe it's thought to be a bit harsh now.

Can confirm. Dangling earrings hang wrong from my left lobe and there is nothing that can be done to fix it.

kittyfairy66 · 01/01/2026 01:11

Superdrug use guns as well

twitchwitch · 01/01/2026 01:15

Had a second piercing in mine recently & was advised to use salted & cooled boiled water - and not to twist them - which I’m sure we were told to do back in the day!

murasaki · 01/01/2026 01:16

Yes, we were definitely told to turn them!

Salted boiled and cooled water is a marvel for many things.

DramaAlpaca · 01/01/2026 01:20

Agree with cooled, boiled salted water, you don't need anything more than that.

And definitely no twisting! They healed slower if you do.

I took mine out after six weeks to give the piercings and the studs a thorough clean, then put them back in until fully healed.

MsSmartShoes · 01/01/2026 01:22

Surgical spirit.
TCP.

Get saline wound wash from a pharmacist. Usually, your local pharmacies have a rota for opening on public holidays. The local press should say who is open tomorrow.

I have three piercings in each ear which were done in a tattoo studio with a piercing gun. I used savlon diluted at a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio of savlon to water each time, and it worked fine.

mathanxiety · 01/01/2026 03:35

Big eyeroll at all the pearl clutching over Claire's. The deed is done. The ears are still ok.

Your DD should rub a big blob of Vaseline onto her piercings, front and back, and rotate the earrings.
