Is this a Hobbs knockoff coat?

Bought a Hobbs coat on EBay as shops and online were out of my size.
Listed as new without tags (which I thought meant price tags, not labels) and was almost £200 less than full price.
Coat arrived and the Hobbs label is torn and there’s no care label but there is a label inside showing info eg supplier/factory name.
The coat seems well made and fits well but I am wondering about the provenance and whether it’s genuinely 100% wool.
Pictures attached including coat lining which I’m not sure if that’s what the Hobbs lining marks look like.
Very curious!

Sounds like a sample made to test the range.

They don’t have to put care labels in on the samples. And the Hobbs label will have been cut to stop it being resold. The fact that the factory name and supplier is on it also makes me think this.

I would say it’s a Hobbs sample, not from the ranges. You have no proof of fibre content unless you can test a tiny bit by burning it. Can you pull of a thread? It will smell like burning hair.

I think you have a genuine Hobbs sample there - the only thing that I would question is the fact it's a size 10. Industry standard would be a 12, but sometimes a full size set is made so it is possible. Enjoy your bargain

could it be a second? Companies usually mark the labels of second-quality items in some way (Lucy & Yak will do an orange spot on the label, that sort of thing).

Itsmetheflamingo · 31/12/2025 21:25

They cut the label for seconds/ samples. I think it’s more than likely genuine

Is it a regular/professional seller?

Yes, regular seller and seems to sell a lot of Hobbs items, many described as without tags

I’d probably burn the entire coat! 😂

It’s a Petite size 10 too. It almost seemed too good to be true that I found my exact size so hope it’s genuine.
Wish I could check that it is wool without catching the coat alight!

It’s an authentic sample - You can tell from the ‘sealer’ designation. It will be wool!

I’d say genuine then. Do you per chance have a link?

I often see new Hobbs items in one of my local charity shops, marked as 'brand donations' with the labels cut, and they are all size 10.

I have a Hobbs coat label & chain look correct to me .

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 01/01/2026 00:53

I used to go to sample sales ALL the time.

As everyone has said this is a sample....

christmasnamechangeforthelotofthem · 02/01/2026 00:16

Thank you! Looks legit

Maggiethecat · 11/01/2026 08:57

I wore it when it was freezing this week and it kept me very warm although not a heavy coat. I popped into the Hobbs at St Pancras station as I was going past and the coat in there looked exactly like mine.
Very pleased with the purchase!
