They're a total bargain and I've tried them on- they're comfy enough, but something doesn't look quite right and I can't work out what it is. £17.99 for leather boots though!

The whole balance of the shoe is off. The heel is wrong and runs in under - it would feel off to walk on. The toe is super long and pointy. You'll look like you're walking around in flippers.

If the heel was a chunk fom where the top edge joins the shoe down, the visual weight would balance the length of the toe, plus it would feel significantly better to walk in. As it is, the heel seems to disappear.

I get what you mean. I think this heel style look is being pushed by the designers but it might be a fleeting thing.

I think it’s the angled/inward turning heel that looks odd. Possibly combined with a very thin sole and very long pointy overall shape.

Plankton89 · 31/12/2025 00:23

This is my attempt to make them look better someone get me a life, please!!

I bought these recently, & the shape is similar but (I think) a much better, more elegant design. They're the Celia boot from Whistles - now out of stock but I found them on eBay for £23, worn once & in perfect condition! I did go up a half-size/size because of the narrow pointed front to the foot, but they definitely don't look like winkle pickers!! I've never found Schuh very good quality or fit.

Find yourself a pair of these on eBay or Vinted instead!

Gosh, to think that £17 nowadays is considered a bargain for a pair of boots ? People have never had things so good.

Is this a joke ...??!! If not, I suggest you look at the price of ankle boots in averagely priced footwear shops/depts like Clarks/M&S.

Don't go near the more expensive high street shops - you might explode from the shock!!!

Musntapplecrumble · 31/12/2025 02:52

I think it's the overlarge instep! 🤔

The toe is too long and pointy

Hehe - that. The problem with them is that they're ugly.

I once saw a pair of stunning, supreme quality boots reduced to pennies in Benetton. I rushed in to try them on and I couldn't get my foot into them. They'd been made so that no normal foot (ie one including bones!) could possibly get round the bend. The shop assistant said it was like Cinderella, watching all these women troop in only to be betrayed by their own anatomy.

😂😂😂

Blankscreen · 31/12/2025 07:04

They look very baggy round the ankle and as a pp said the weird angled heel looks off and will feel odd to walk on.

I don't understand what you're saying. How much would you think is a good price for boots?

Alittlefrustrated · 31/12/2025 08:20

Overly long points like this "bend" when worn. They quickly get a big crease and bend, where the boot is basically empty, because your foot stops way before the point ends. They then become uncomfortable and unsightly.
To be honest they look poorly designed all over. Unattractive heel, too long and pointy, and baggy ankle.
That's why they are trying to get rid at silly price.
They might have better luck at Halloween 🧙

@Perrylobster I bought these in brown suede a few months ago. I think they’re very comfy, the heel is fine and doesn’t feel ‘off’ as I walk at all (I’ve done 10K+ steps on way to work several times). On me personally the suede version is very close fitting at the ankle, one of my favourite things about them as I find boots almost always too wide or baggy at the leg. Maybe they’re cut differently to the leather though!

Denim4ever · 31/12/2025 09:12

I think they are fine and that 80s/90s look is in. I'm not sure I'd wear it with very wide leg, there are those tapered styles that are baggy that kinda might work.

If I buy styles like this I need a zip side as I have very high instep. This isn't relevant, but in Japan all the boots just wouldn't fit my foot shape. Shame as there was some good looking footwear and added joy of department store shopping still being a thing.

It was a weeks wages in the 60’s Joe (as I’m sure you know), but times have moved on a bit 😂

The Brown suede is definitely kinder on the eye. I’ve been tempted by them but I think I’ll hold out for something I really like.
I’m going to take mine back today, I’ve decided.

Thank you for this!
I’ll keep a look out. as I totally agree, much more flattering and more the shape I’m looking for.

To me it's how the heel is placed, just looks odd somehow...

mjuser · 31/12/2025 12:10

Just had these delivered, and I think they're great. I'd prefer a higher heel and the leg bit not to be so high up the ankle, but under wide trousers they work perfectly. Ridiculously comfortable too, you don't feel the heel at all.

When I was in Schuh in the summer a lady working in there told me their own brand shoes are cheap for a reason and wouldn't even last a term.

Last summer I had a pair of their sandals, birkie types.
lasted six weeks!

never again.

BauhausOfEliott · 30/12/2025 22:39

Based on my own experience of working in retail… I strongly suspect she just wanted to upsell you a much more expensive shoe by one of the named brands that they stock.

She was probably telling the truth. I was told something similar by the assistant in Schuh when I was vacillating between their dupe of a Birkenstock or the genuine article.

I bought the dupe and it broke within weeks.
