Any clothes dye recommendations?

Can anyone recommend any fabric dye brands other than Dylon? The Dylon colours are just so... obvious and boring. And they say you can't mix colours.

I'm looking for shades like mossy greens, terracotta, pale grey, cobalt. Happy to experiment.

Maybe I should ask on the Craft board too!

I don’t know of commercial ones but if you want to use natural products there are several books recommended here:

Rit dyes come in more subtle colours. I wasn’t that happy with the results so I’ve only used it once - possibly unfairly as there’s always an element of chance.

Remember that the Dylon dye is unlikely to come out exactly as it looks on the pack as it reacts to the colour of the garment. The packaging means it’s a faff now to mix colours but you can still do it (and I have). Or use their hand dye sachets - also a faff as you can’t stick it in a machine and walk away but it gives you more control over what colour you get.

I’ve used Rit Dye on a couple of sweatshirts. Turned them from cream to pink.

It worked well, and the Rit Dye colour library allows you to mix colours too. Just check your fabric content before ordering the dye.

However, there’s a huge element of the unknown when you dye stuff, which is half the fun
