Capsule Wardrobe

Starting a new capsule wardrobe, have identified scenarios that I need to have covered base on doing laundry once per week. I've put weight on quite rapidly and i genuinely dont have anything that fits me anymore apart from one set of dark jeans that i bought last week. Have been dressing like shit in leggings and and over size jumpers.

Goals are: remove the decision making / have less stuff generally / review in 6-8 months after I have lost the bulk of my stress and grief weight 😔 (about 20kg to lose... I've lost control)

Limitations are: I'm currently size 14-16, popped tummy and carry weight on the backs of my hips. Chunky thighs. Very tall. Hate bling. Prefer timless over trend. Tights are not comfortable right now (they roll b/c of my belly). Will not iron.

-

  1. Dog walk kit - 2-3 sets. (summer and winter versions, the only difference being thermal leggings or normal) SORTED

  2. housework kit - genuinely shit clothes that i dont mind getting bleach on. One set only. SORTED

  3. In office outfit - two sets . (I can wear the same thing every Tuesday & Thursday.. right?) HELP!

  4. Work from home but be professional - x2-3 sets. I'm not breaking a sweat at my desk so can rewear and rewear. Probably only need one bottom? HELP!

  5. Weekend home - Something I can curl up on sofa with but still be smart enough to pop to neighbours for drinks..this one is soooo tricky! HELP!

  6. Weekend out and about - jeans probably, with silk blouses and nice jumpers. This is covered, I have plenty of jumpers to already choose from! SORTED

  7. Black tie and party - no massive urgency coming up, park this for when I've lost weight. SORTED

5 - I have discovered jumper dresses. They’re perfect for lounging around and also fine if you need to nip out. I bought a lovey Karen Millen one and I have one from Object that I wear all the time - worn with flat knee length boots.

Cropped barrel trousers: I have a pair from Sahara in navy, one from soclementine in brown and a denim one in black from Anthropologie.
Long sleeve white and black T-shirts to go under jumpers.
Jumpers: old cashmere ones in black, yellow, green.

I wear these all the time for everything. If I go out with a friend for coffee etc, I’ve got a couple of me and em jumpers and I put jewellery on and black boots or trainers instead of wellies.

Smart-ish: black long wool skirts with cashmere tshirts, silk/satin skirts with chunky knits, white shirts, CoS trousers.

I don’t work in an office.

Weekend at home: Uniqlo men’s merino jumpers and sweaty Betty yoga trousers. They are really old, I don’t mind cleaning in them.

I’ve been round my friend’s for a quick coffee this morning. I wore pyjamas under my dryrobe. She only lives on the next street. She was in pyjamas too. We do not care club.

Following this thread with great interest as I’m also wanting to do this. Have a massive wardrobe of clothes but wear only 30% and keep loads of stuff in the insane hope that one day I will fit into it again!

I think the key to a capsule wardrobe is the colours you choose. You need lots of neutrals that go together so one pair of trousers or one top can be matched with multiple different items to make an outfit. That way out of say 10 items, you can mix and match to create 20 outfits.

You add in accessories etc to dress them up or down.
