Sizes left in sale?!

I'm a size 4-6 in clothing - absolute short arse and currently at my lowest weight due to stress/MH issues (my appetite is the first thing to go). I'm more usually a 6-8 but I do try and eat healthily usually and do a ton of exercise.

Anyway, had a few things I wanted in the sales, but nothing earmarked, e.g. I wanted an A-line faux leather skirt but hadn't identified a specific one. My go-to is always Next, yet when I've checked online today almost all of their sizes that are left are 16+! I thought it was normally smaller sizes that were left? I've also been told I struggle to sell on Vinted because it's all small sizes... what's going on!?

Next sale started Xmas eve I think.
Size 4/6 is pretty small. Amounts available would be limited I would think and there will probably be less people after them on vinted too. Not many people are a size 4.

Ah I didn't think of it like that - although don't usually have a problem buying online, but would make sense why I struggle to sell. Although it's more of an issue with Next as I'm honestly not that tiny in terms of weight and measurements - I was an 8 in there a few years ago without any change in weight!

I've just been online shopping and had the exact opposite problem. Only the smallest size left in most things I liked, and I'm a 12-14. Try Superdry and Ted Baker, that's where I had the worst luck!

A size 4/6 is very small. Have you tried the girls section, a kids 14 years would probably be the same size?

I have for basics, for example I got a denim jacket really cheap in Next aged 13 a couple of years ago. But I'm 40 now and the things I'm looking for definitely wouldn't be the same as a teenage girl (unfortunately). It sounds small but I'm 5ft, 8.5 stone and a 32DD so I'm really not that tiny compared to some!

My local Asda (yes I do think it has some decent stuff) was only any good in the sale if you are a size 20-22……. I’m an 9-10 🤦🏻‍♀️

It doesn't help that vanity sizing has taken over. You can try brands that are more "true to size"/not so generously cut. Petite ranges should help too because the proportions are better (narrower shoulders etc). For trousers/jeans, look for waist measurements rather than just sizing. It'll be trial and error but for example M&S and Next are more generously cut compared to Zara and Hollister. If you can get your hands on Asian brands they would also run smaller. I see sometimes Vinted have Uniqlo items from Asia (I'm size 10 and wear S or even XS in European Uniqlo but M in Asian).

Edit to add that I know this doesn't help with the sale but more sizing issue in general.

Thanks - yes I still find I need a small in Zara rather than an extra-small. Having been to Japan and bought Uniqlo there I was most put out when I had to buy a much bigger size 😅I usually try and buy petite in tops, dresses, and skirts, but often find the trousers are too short despite my lack of height!

Sorry to go off pist, but if you're a uk size 4 to 6 then there is no way you wear a 32 bra band, more likely a 26 at the most 28.

Definitely a 32 - just got measured, I have a weirdly massive rib cage...

Hopefully not somewhere like M&S when they follow the +4 method!

willowstar · 27/12/2025 13:33

I am a 6 and have almost completely given up with Marks and Spencers. They sell out so quickly. It has been slightly better of late but it is really frustrating. For what it's worth, I got the mini faux leather skirt from there are the 6 was too small whereas the other two skirts I got at the same time fit just fine. So if they do have it still it comes up small (for M&S) so 6 should be fine for you

captainoctopus · 27/12/2025 13:34

Maybe so many people using those weight loss jabs has started to affect the spread of popular clothes sizes?

No, Ann Summers - I don't own any M&S bras

Ah thanks - it's a midi length but flared I'm after, which seems to be like finding the holy grail right now!
