Can I return an online M & S Xmas present that was wrapped and posted to me?

Received an M & S jumber Xmas present that was obviously ordered online (as in original packaging) and then wrapped and posted on to me. Can I just return it for a refund without the person who ordered it knowing or contacted?

Do you have any form of receipt?

If you take it into store without a receipt, they'll give you an exchange or giff card for the current sale price of the item (e.g. if it was originally bought for £40 but is now half price, you'll only get £20). If you have the receipt, you'll get the full value.
I did this last year and that was the rules then anyway

If you return it, the sender won't be notified but in their account, it will say refunded/returned next to the item. It's not something obvious but the sender could see it.

I work for M&S, you can take it to store, they'll scan it and whatever price comes up they'll then give you a credit receipt.

They only last a year so make sure you spend it, you can't use it online, only in stores.

Thanks for your reply. I rang M & S today and they told me that I couldn’t get a credit refund for the current price as it was bought online and i had no receipt. I think the fact that I had the online packaging seemed to be causing problems.

i think I will probably just remove the online packaging it came in and go to the store and return it for a credit refund at its current price.

No receipt just the online packaging. The giver, for some reason, kept the present in the online packaging for some reason. Maybe she thinks that will help with the refund.

Thanks for your reply. Shall I just remove the online m & s packaging 1st?

Thanks for your reply. Won’t the sender rather than me get the refund on their account if they scan the packaging.
