Handbag - Mulberry Lily-esque

My bag usage has changed. I’m increasingly using my little “evening” sized bag (a mini iris hobo) everyday.

This bag is a little small so something a little larger has been on my radar. I also bought a quirky colour (bright green) which I love but doesn’t go with everything so I could do with a black bag.

I’ve been looking at a Mulberry Lily but I’m a bit out of love with the brand and would prefer to support a small business (or maybe I just need to buy a used one!)

Good quality leather matters, and I like something that ages well.

I’m out of bag buying loop so please help me with suggestions.

I can spend for the right bag as if it works for me I’ll have it for years (looks at 20yr+ old Furla tote bag that gets used around once or twice a month)

I’m probably going to get myself the Sézane Gary bag in taupe suede. Similar to the Mulberry Islington but not expensive. Well made and understated.

Well I went to Mulberry.

Cannot believe how much stuff I could fit in a Lily! (I basically emptied my handbag into it. Think the sales assistant thought I was mad). And I loved the way the heavily shop worn sample had developed a bit of personality/slouchiness.

None of the other bags I can find are similarly sized.

BUT the Lily strap is a little bit neat to wear cross body over my winter coat…

I’ve also looked online at Carv London, and Honey & Toast. Both have bags that work albeit either slightly smaller, or slightly larger.

So I am still really undecided.

I feel your pain! I love the Lily. I found an excellent one in a consignment shop near me. Was a brilliant price but it was just too short crossbody, which I how I wear my bags.
I'm so sad.

Searching for an alternative now too

I used to be in a lot of the Mulberry facebook groups and I’m pretty sure you can get the chain extended so it’s more crossbody friendly?!

Update - have found a lovely vintage leather handbag of the perfect size and strap length while excavating the hoard belonging to an elderly relative.

Have taken it with permission and started using it.
