Anyone had any experience of getting tretinoin from Dermatica?

After reading some threads on here, I decided to try and get tretinoin through Dermatica.

I did the questionnaire thing, but when I got the email (after I'd paid!) it told me they were going to send me ivermectin, metronidazole and azelaic acid lotion.

I guess I can cancel this subscription (it only cost £2.90 as a first month offer, so not the end of the world), but how do I guarantee actually getting the tretinoin?!

Anyone had a similar experience?

No, I found them great. Had to stop because my skin did not like it at all.

do you have rosacea? Why are they suggesting metronidazole - that’s a hardcore antibiotic?

FakingItEasy · 19/12/2025 06:25

One of the questions was if I had redness when exercising/drinking wine/when I get hot etc, which I said yes to (cos I do!).

I am prone to redness, so maybe it is roseacea, and my photos were probably quite red.

I guess it might not be a bad thing to treat that too, it's just annoying because it's not what I actually wanted!

I've trusted Dermatica as expert dermatologists. They assess your skin and prescribe according to your needs. That might not be tretinoin.

Dermatica have been brilliant with my prescriptions. Initially tret but COVID really impacted my skin (GP confirmed) and with more photos Dermatica have changed the prescription and my skin has cleared completely.

My skin is better than it ever has been.

I’ve always asked for what I want and they have sent it. I said I wanted Tret and they sent it. Then earlier this year I asked to increase the amount and they also agreed.
Try requesting it.

Purlant · 19/12/2025 06:32

I think it might be the redness and they want to try and treat that first. I have the same and tret makes it worse if it’s not treated. I have since been prescribed it though through them. I have to be careful with it though as can make my skin very dry (to the point it’s scaly and peels off) and red.

Eifla2o18 · 19/12/2025 06:34

I'm very happy with them but I do think part of the assessment included a question about anything you specific wanted including. I'm 46 and have the best skin of my life.

Ah, I think I missed that bit. Maybe I should give this a go for a few months then and try and move onto tret ater. I'm also 46 and don't have great skin anyway (red, and prone to spots still!!)

I was just hoping to have slightly younger looking bad skin!

I’d take the first month and then just ask - they are very responsive and accommodating. The azelaic has been amazing for my skin!

ExamHellDoubled · 19/12/2025 07:47

You can contact them and ask if you want to. I found them great to be honest, also tried Skin & Me and Dermatica were my favourite.

TeenagersAngst · 19/12/2025 07:50

You’ll probably find your skin responds well to what they’ve suggested and can then request tret after that.

Lucia573 · 19/12/2025 08:09

I had exactly the same! I asked about it and they said that I had rosacea. The treatment, which was the same as yours, has improved my skin dramatically. No more redness or breakouts. They move you into something else after a while as you can’t use the antibiotic indefinitely. I asked to try tret after a year or so and did not get on well with it. The redness and occasional spots returned so I’ve gone back to trusting their recommendations and my skin looks great.

Lucia573 · 19/12/2025 08:09

They do also respond very quickly to questions.

gillefc82 · 19/12/2025 08:15

I’ve used both dermatica and skin&me for tret and prefer the latter as the doser is more precise. Try skin&me.

Nospecialcharactersplease · 19/12/2025 08:35

I’m on Skin and Me rather than Dermatica, but I also have redness and they did two months of strong azelaic acid for me first then introduced the tret. I actually saw quite a lot of benefit from those first months too. Worth giving it a try and having a chat about your long term goal to be on tret.

Send them a message to say the point of signing up is to get Tret and you would prefer to go along that route .

I'm using tret with Dermatica. I think it's improving my dark sports but there's also been a lot of peeling and skin soreness whilst getting used to it. Even after a couple of months I get peeling quite often which looks bad. A LOT of moisturiser is needed!! Even though it says to put it on dry skin, I have to moisturise first and also after otherwise I get sore skin.

RedFrogs · 20/12/2025 10:51

I’ve used them for years. I think I specifically requested tretinoin though. If you message them about it they’re normally good at switching to what you want or explaining why they are prescribing something different. They also change prescriptions when you do the check in consultations so they might change it once whatever skin issues requiring the initial treatment has been solved.

Isabelle70 · 20/12/2025 21:44

I originally signed up for Dermatica and the anti aging treatment. They replied at the time with the same prescription you have been offered.
It actually made sense, I did have red skin with spots and it was rosacea.
I have been using it for about 3 years and my skin looks really good now, no more redness or pustules.
I have thought about asking for tretinoin but have read it’s not suitable for rosacea so haven’t bothered.
I would try it for a few months and see what you think. You could then ask about the tret.

UmberMoose · 21/12/2025 13:31

I used to use them but then shifted as I found its costly. Here goes my routine if you would be interested:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
Garnier spf
Cicaplast
Evening:
LRP moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel

I was going to say this. I have just started with Dermatica a couple of weeks ago and I remember there was a step to specify any ingredients you specifically wanted to have and also any you wanted to avoid. I specifically wanted tret and so selected that. I have previously used tret from Skin+Me, but stopped about a year ago. Dermatica have prescribed me Tretinoin 0.05%/ Azelaic acid 15%/ Tranexamic acid 5%.

Op if you specifically want tret I would contact them to ask about it. It's probably too late for your first formula but worth asking the question at least. They may have a valid reason for not including it, or may depend on the skin concerns you listed. Or they may be happy to change it.

I am about two weeks in and soooo peely. I am not too fussed generally, as it's not noticeable if I just cleanse, moisturise well and then apply SPF (which is all I do most days) but I am currently unable to wear foundation or more than a tiny bit of concealer, as blending these products into my skin makes it peel and look awful. Even if I only stipple and don't rub the skin.
I have had a bit of soreness around my nose so I am only applying every other day and avoiding that area. I have also started using Bepanthen at night over my usual moisturizer and that seems to be helping too.
I love the results though, my skin is so soft!
I don't remember peeling with tret before (Skin+Me) but they started me on a very low concentration and I only ever make it up to 0.018% before I stopped using it.

I was on something for melasma with then for 3 months but am now on this and think it’s great at the Moment- am going to see how I go for a big longer

i can only do 2 at a push three times a week though

sometimes sandwich with cerave lotion first

there was a good YouTube video from pampered Wolf on how to use and where that I found very useful at first

I used Sam bunting night serum for a long time and really liked it as it has azelic acid too; if I go back to that I thought I’d add in a separate tret from somewhere, or the ordinary stronger granactive

dramatica is actually slightly cheaper though (I stretch to deliver every 6 weeks)
