Anyone confused by ME+EM sizing?

I bought a dress a few years back and according to their size guide, a 14 was something like a 50" chest! Obviously a mistake, I thought, but it was in the sale and selling fast. So I got a 12, and could just about squeeze into it. On that basis, my usual size 14 would have been fine.

Now I've got my eye on another dress, and this time the 14 bust size is unfeasibly small - 34.7"! All the other sizes are weirdly small too.

I've never seen this mentioned as a issue. Am I missing a trick that regular ME+EM buyers do?

Anyone confused by ME+EM sizing?

@MixedFeelingsNoFeelings I buy quite regularly and just buy my usual size.

I buy regularly too & just buy my usual size. They also give a guide under each item - runs small size up or true to size etc so i go by that

When you say you buy your usual size, do you mean you don't bother looking at their size guide, you just go with the size you usually buy in other retailers? Because normally I'd check the retailer's size guide, as they do vary slightly. But ME+EM's sizing seems as crazy as Uniqlo's. So I guess the answer is, go with your instincts!

@MixedFeelingsNoFeelings I mean I look at the description ie relaxed fit, oversized etc and then either order a 12 or a 14 depending how I want it to fit me. I never look at the measurements in any shop! I'm also fortunate that I have an excellent tailor locally who does fantastic alterations very reasonably priced.

I never look at retailers' size guides. Everything will be cut differently, there's no way they cut everything to those exact sizes. I just buy my usual size, or two if I'm really unsure. Online reviews are very helpful.

I own two pairs of Next jeans which are the same waist size but two different label sizes. There is absolutely no consistency.

Ok thanks everyone.

I've just realised my 'helpful' pic of their size guide is only helpful if you click on it - then you can see what I mean about their odd sizing.

I try to avoid ordering a range of sizes, it's a chunk out of my account, and returns are a faff and not great for the planet.

Feels like I'm self-selecting out of ME+EM...

I too just buy my usual size and find Me+Em to be true to size.

MissFritton65 · 17/12/2025 14:14

I totally agree with @LavenderBlue19 cuts vary so much but I would say Me and Em are better than a lot of retailers and the sizing doesn't vary excessively.

MixedFeelingsNoFeelings · 18/12/2025 14:41

Thank you for all the responses. I take from it that ME+EM sizing doesn't vary much.

My question was about their size guide, which whenever I've looked at it has been wildly out - saying a size 14 is a 34.7" bust, for example. And in a previous purchase, gave the bust size for a very fitted size 14 dress as being 50-something inches.

However, seeing as the consensus is 'never had a problem', I'll ignore the guide and go for my usual 14.

Yeah I’d completely ignore the size guide. I buy almost all of my clothes from Me and Em and I’m consistently the same size. It never varies and I think that’s due to the quality of their clothes. I have a credit card and buy on this then I don’t have chunks of money coming out of my current account if I decide to return. I pay my credit card off each month.

They offer a try before you buy service which is very helpful. I ordered a dress that I returned immediately and only paid a delivery charge.
