Maternity waterproof jacket?!

16 replies

BidetBeforeDDay · 17/12/2025 00:37

Looking for a maternity waterproof jacket. Ideally 3 in 1 type for wearing with sling after baby is here. (Due late spring/early summer).

I want a waterproof, not a warm jacket. So I can wear it in the spring/summer if it's chucking it down.

Such a thing appears not to exist. Only warm coats of dubious waterproofness. Following links online takes me to long-ago sold-out products.

(Do other pregnant women not go out in the rain or something?! I thought it would be easy to find a maternity version of the numerous waterproofs out there!)

Help! Ideas welcome. I've tried looking secondhand but no luck yet.

I had a £15 maternity mac from new look. The waterproofing was better than my north face anorak. I was really impressed and wore it with the baby carrier too. Was just an outer shell so not warm at all.

Mama Lila and wombat seemed to be the main two.

Also worth looking at a zip us/me in panel if you’ve got decent waterproof jacket already.

Just buy larger? You only need the waterproof part then layer underneath as needed. I just bought 2-3 sizes larger or mens

I think you are looking at the wrong time of year. Even when I sold my mat stuff on vinted, I waited until roughly the right season to upload it to try and appeal to the most number of buyers. Maybe wait until Feb / March and you might find more second hand bits appear. I definitely remember seeing some on Mountain Warehouse 2yrs ago when I was looking so maybe wait until after the winter stuff has gone on sale and the new collections are in?

I used a zip in panel on my existing collection of waterproofs (and the Aldi ski jackets I used for winter). They started out with just the panel but seem to have more products now.

Have you tried a smock style waterproof? They often have zips at the sides that you can pull up a bit to accommodate bump or sling! You will probably still need a size up.

Paramo is the leading brand, and their smocks are a good soft but extremely waterproof material. Other cheaper alternatives are out there.

Surely winter is precisely the right time to be buying waterproofs?!
I've never had an issue buying standard waterproof jackets or trousers.
Mountain Warehouse appear to not really have a maternity range any more. When I searched "maternity" on their site only two products came up, both with barely any sizes left.

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads
Thanks.
The first link only has size 8 and 10 (I need 12 for the sleeve length annoyingly!)
The second link is literally the only one I found too! Pricey.

Maybe @gogomomo2 is right and size larger is the way forward. Just not sure it will fit in the right places without being way too big up top!

I recommend Mamalila as you can also use them once baby is here when Babywearing

Unfortunately they are out of my budget. Will look out for secondhand though.

Another vote for a Zipusin panel. They're only water resistant rather than waterproof, but it's fine if the rest of your jacket is waterproof. It also means you can have whatever coat you like and still use it when not pregnant or babywearing.

My other maternity coat came from Seraphine. It wasnt what you are looking for as it was a warm winter one, but it looks like Next is still selling their items (maybe they bought them when they went bust?!). If this one is out of budget, you could look for second hand.

@DeliciouslyBaked
Thanks, yes I've found a few secondhand Seraphine jackets.
Have bought something from Vinted (with tags still on!) so hopefully that will be good!
