Old lady clothes

I am an old lady, mid 60s and I’m lucky to still be here.
I still try to take an interest in my appearance but have lost my way. I don’t have a massive budget. Please could someone help with which styles will emphasise my old lady looks so I can avoid them?
Thank you

I’m having a tired day today but enjoying looking at Silvecat and Melissa Murrell for ideas.

Mumsnetters have been so thoughtful and generous of time in replying, thank you!

@Lifelover16 you might enjoy watching a few women over 60 that i follow on YouTube. One is beauty by dez & she follows clothes & make up trends. I think she's 71 but very on trend. Another one is Jo Good ( also in her 70's) in an interview with lily pebbles. She has a brilliant outlook on life & Ioves clothes. She's also a very good presenter on the Sheerluxe channel on YouTube.
Amanda Wakeley Friday night fashion is another brilliant you tube account. She's in her 60's. I love the glorious shop tours they do. The Rixo tour is amazing.

I appreciate you've been ill but sometimes it's nice to watch these while you're in the process of recovery.
Melissa Murrell videos are brilliant aren't they?
If you don't find the personal shopper helpful at J Lewis you could do an online consultation with one of the Melissa Murrell stylists.

May I start with a suggestion that you not refer to yourself as an old lady?

There are tons of women in their mid-60s that just look like stylish matrons.

Unfortunately Matron has got negative connotations too

I've just had to come back to this thread because something happened to me this week that I think is food for thought for all of us women the 'wrong' side of 50 who are in a style rut, lacking confidence, struggling with how to look current and fresh without looking ridiculous or like we are trying to emulate our 20 year old daughters.

A few weeks ago I found a gorgeous, short boxy faux fur jacket in TK Maxx. It was an absolute bargain, £29.99 down from an original price of over a hundred. It's the sort of thing I envisioned wearing over the top of a Christmas party dress. I loved it, so I bought it. Came home, twirled around indoors in it, then stuck it in the wardrobe thinking 'I never go out at night any more, I rarely have the need to look really glamorous, I'm not going to any Christmas parties, what was the point of buying that? I'll probably never wear it.'

Then a few days ago I was in a clothes shop browsing and a woman of roughly my age walked past in an almost identical jacket. She then proceeded to tell one of the sales assistants how much she loved it and how glad she was that she'd bought it. She was wearing it with faded, ankle grazer jeans with big turn ups and some black biker boots, a junky roll neck jumper and a slouchy bag. Not dressy at all. Not evening-wear. Just as casual as can be. She was just wearing her fancy coat and enjoying it and she looked fabulous. It didn't look out of place with the jeans AT ALL. What was I worrying about? So I am wearing mine today. With jeans and trainers.

@HeadDeskHeadDesk I love this! ❤

I’m in my early seventies and wear very similar clothes to those I wore 50, 40, 30, 20 and 10 years ago. I just tweak to update according to current trends. My basic style hasn’t changed. Shoes have recently become more forgiving to older feet! Today I’m going to wear my black patent lace up boots.

Think of what has always suited you and update it. The best thing you can invest in is a good haircut that generally aligns with what’s fashionable.

Me too and I have a very similar jacket that I bought from Zara in November. (I'm not an old lady I'm late 30s but anyone can wear it)
