Nail varnish

Can anyone recommend a brand of nail varnish that is long lasting and gives a nice smooth finish, for applying at home?

I used to love painting my nails, and want to again but don't have as much spate time. I can manage once a week but dont want to be spotting worn chipped nails.

I have quite nice nails, not long but a nice shape etc. I dont like the look of nails when people have had them "done" and they look weirdly thick and curved

I use manicurist. Last me a week without chipping which I’ve never come close to with any other brand.

I use lily and fox nail wraps. They're just made from nail varnish but they're like a sticker, they're not gels so you don't need a lamp and you use normal nail varnish remover to get them off. They take a long time to arrive but they are much cheaper than any others I've found. If I use a top coat and look after them they last me 2 weeks but I usually get bored and change them weekly. They don't chip at al.

Ooh thanks I've nearly ordered those nail wraps several times.

I use Lily & Fox too but they’re having issues at the minute with not fulfilling orders. They used to have a warehouse/dispatch place in Australia which used to take a couple of weeks for delivery, but were reliable. Now they’re only dispatching from the US and people are still waiting for orders from mid October. I’ll not be ordering any more until the issue is resolved.

I have been ordering from OhMyGosh nails and consistently wear their Vixen (solid red colour - I only like solids or French) and I get 12/14 days out of them. I sometimes don’t even get hours out of normal polish before it chips and I’ve tried loads of brands.

I second the manicurist, it’s great (I used the “green” stuff not the uv one) but it’s very easy to apply and lasts well.

Chanel, the most pigment as well.

Essie Gel Couture polish and top coat.
Two coats and top coat will last over a week without chips. I’ve been lucky to get 48 hours without chips from other polishes.

I started a thread about nail wraps and they all seemed like a massive faff

Actually, no, I started the thread about gel nail polish and found out all sorts of scary things about allergies and what not. And then people seem to be curing their nail wraps and I just gave up on the whole thing.

I have been trying to do my nails more carefully but the ends seem to fade or lose polish or whatever, within two days

I have always painted my own nails, since I was a teenager and I'm absolutely convinced that nail polish is not as good as it used to be. It's even lasted me well through manual jobs when I was young and now it can't cope with a low amount of wear and tear

So is it really worth trying Chanel? And are there any wraps that don't require curing or whatever it is? I think I might have rejected the wraps because I thought it would be too much hassle to cut them out.

I was debating getting gel nails done just once locally before a couple of nights out next week. Still haven't decided though.
