Wide legged jeans

Help me please Fashionistas!

I am making that break into wide legged jeans - I didn’t think I would like them but I am actually in love with 2 pairs I’ve just got.

Trainers look fine with them for a casual look but what boots/shoes are people wearing with them to dress them up?

Please please help me as I’m clueless - I spend most of my time in outdoor gear so this is way out of my comfort zone!

I wear my wide leg jeans with trainers or loafers

Slim fitted chisel toe kitten heel. Check out Melissa Murell on YouTube, she has recently done a video on jeans cuts and footwear.

I’d wear a pointy flat with mine.

Thanks ladies. I’ve got a trip to Manchester this weekend so I’ll have a look 😊

I wear low heel ankle boots with mine, almost cowboy style. They give it a lovely 70s look.

Not quite the same but having recently deciding to try something other than my faithful skinny jeans I got some barrel leg ones from White Company (Portabello) . They looked amazing in the shop with boots and seemed to do something magical to my leg length and bum and the sales assistant agreed they looked amazing (I know, it’s literally her job to say that).

Well. I’ve worn them a few times and they just look baggy shapeless and stupid on me. I’m gutted. And they weren’t cheap either.

I can’t even take back as I took all the tags off. I may keep them as a reminder not to make spontaneous purchases.

So watching your thread with interest OP as I do like a straight leg wide cut.

I wear pointed low heel slim fit ankle boots - you want the tops of them to be quite fitted to the ankle - not flappy. A variation is “sock boots”.

@sweetpickle2 ooo ok, I’ll bare that in mind. I would actually love a pair of cowboy boots!

Oh what a shame! Is there anything that is different about what you were wearing in the shop to what you’re wearing when out and about?
I tried on a barrel pair as I’ve seen them on social media and they look so lovely. Not on me though!
Honestly didn’t think I was going to like the wide legs but they are giving off serious Mrs.Durrell vibes!

@slowraindrop thank you - I’ve been researching this morning and it seems that pointed look better. Trainer wise my Gazelles are fine but dressy wise definitely need something else.

I bought some of these a few weeks ago:

I’d add that you do need to consider the length… I have some Levis wide legged ribcage jeans that look great and come almost to the ground when wearing boots. But they wouldn’t work with trainers as they’d puddle or scrape on the ground.

Happyinheels · 11/12/2025 14:04

Loving the advice here everyone, thank you! And those last 2 pics have been really helpful.
I’ve tried them on with my trainers and they’re ok.
I’ve bought a gorgeous shirt that looks good with them so just need to sort the footwear!
I work in early years so you can imagine - I rarely dress up… well I do but World Book Day and Halloween don’t count!
I’ve really lost my way with fashion or not even fashion, just style. I have a fab summer wardrobe but the winter wardrobe is pretty lack lustre to be honest!
