Sainsbury's thongs - crazy size guide?

I've given up on finding a reasonably priced multipack of black cotton thongs and resigned myself to having colours I don't want. Sainsbury's seems the best bet, but the size guide is nuts. Going by my waist measurement even a size 4 is going to be large, but going by the hip measurement (maybe not relevant for a thong) I'm an 8. I know sizes can vary quite widely by brand, but this is the first time a size guide has placed me as a UK 4 or had such a big discrepancy between waist and hip sizes. It just doesn't seem plausible.

Would be grateful for comments on sizing from anyone who's bought Sainsbury's undies.

Bonprix do all black cotton multi packs! They come up generously

Hm. I would follow your hip measurement. I wear size 12 high legs and they’re a comfy fit, stay up but not tight at all. This makes sense as I’m a 10-12 hourglass/pear. My hips match the size guide. My waist is much smaller than the size guide.

Hurrah! Thanks @Paaseitjes. Those look to be exactly what I want and the size guide seems reasonable. Can't think why bonprix has never come up in my searches. It's a bit daft to pay £4.50 for delivery, but I might be able to live with that.

@MoreThanRubies That's reassuring. I'm torn now between the cheaper Sainsbury's and the all-black Bonprix. I prefer the cut of the Bonprix, so will probably cross my fingers and hope they fit. I also don't like buying from places that can't provide a reasonably accurate size guide - it just reinforces their bad behaviour.

I always wrote Bonprix off as a granny store, but they have a really good selection of maternity bras and they do normal bras in peculiar sizes like 38B which I needed when pregnant. I'm not sure I'll ever buy their outerwear though! Or at least not for another 30 years...
