My ds19 is quite rapidly loosing his hair and after a bit of research wants to try oral minoxidil. Does anyone have any experience of this and where would you get it from. Is it something you would go to a GP or get prescribed online. Thanks

Has he seen his GP already to rule out any medical causes? What pattern is his hair falling out?

I think minoxidil tablets are only available from a dermatologist.

You can get them from Hair + Me online. You have to fill out a consultation and send photos and if they think he needs it they will prescribe it. Obviously it’s not free. He might be able to get it through his GP though.

I am taking it. You won’t get it from your GP I doubt, I saw someone at the London Skin & Hair Clinic. You shed hair for the first 6-8 weeks on it which is very hard. I now have 2cm of re-growth.
Takes a good 6 months to see results but perhaps less in your son’s case if he has short hair.

The point about this drug is that it only works as long as you take it. When you stop taking it all the new hair falls out within a few months. I have no idea what the very long term side effects are.

I got it from manual

I’ve been taking oral minoxidil for most of this year and there seems to be some improvement but it’s very slow and requires a lot of patience. On the positive side I’ve had zero side effects. I choose to take it orally as using a topical form is just a faff when it has to be every day and I know I wouldn’t keep that up. Orally works much better for me.

I get mine from Hair and Me. Will share a link to the thread with my discount code if you’re interested in trying it for your son @Hghlandlooo
