Help Finding a Waterproof, Everyday Coat for Walking in Winter

Hi everyone — I need some coat advice please.

I’m on the hunt for the perfect waterproof coat. I already have a smart work coat, so this is more about practicality: something I can wear while walking 10,000+ steps a day, in all kinds of winter weather.

A couple of things I’ve struggled with so far:

  • I’ve tried dry-robe dupes, but they feel really smothering and are way oversized.
  • I’m not sure if I should size down or look for a different style altogether.

For context: I’m average height and wear a UK size 12–14. Colour isn’t a big deal — my priority is that it’s practical, warm, and waterproof.

Does anyone have suggestions for brands or styles? Or tips on sizing so I don’t feel like I’m wrapped in a duvet?

Thanks in advance!

I love my Seasalt coats - totally waterproof and warm but not too warm

Ive had two of these since 2019, I only bought a new one due to losing weight. It is excellent, completely windproof and waterproof.

I got a Barbour a few years ago. Long past my bum, waterproof, padded so nice and warm, big hood.

I second the Janelle. I have just lost the hood of mine and am bereft as I love that coat for long walks.

Didrikson brand are very good.

Came on to suggest Didrikson, see I am not the first.
Pricey, but worth every penny.

Andregroup · 23/11/2025 20:33

Yes, Didriksons. Best coats ever.

Lands End coats are also very good quality and they are half price now. Maybe not styled very well on the website but they are fine in person.
