Cobbler recommendations for Boot repair

I’ve got a pair of boots that I’ve had so long the sole has become brittle and is breaking off. Timpson can’t repair them as they grind down the sole to stick a new one on but this has no sole (with any integrity) to stick on to.

The rest of the boots are in great condition so I guess they’re worth saving. (I have no idea where I bought them or what they cost!)

i guess I’m going to have to send them to a specialist but how do I find one - any recommendations?

A good traditional cobbler should be able to affix a new sole. There's a good one in Wantage. Where are you Op?

Well that's weird lierally two weeks ago I took mine to Timpsons...it was a kind of waffle construction plastic you can't grind down and they just stuck the old sole back on and its just fine so far. They were in the loft for 10 years, I forgot I had them and the glue dried up.

There is a fantastic cobbler in Perth, Scotland. He once used my husband’s walking boots as a before and after post on his Facebook page.

Leeds Boot Repair Company - not used them but the Birkenstock shop in Covent Garden Recomended them.

Classic Shoe Repairs N7 will be able to do it but it will be £££

There’s a good traditional one in Edinburgh - will even re-sole walking boots!

Can also recommend Huttons, they have resoled trail shoes, brogues and Birkenstocks for us so can do just about anything.
The Perth shop does do repairs by mail, not sure about Huttons as we're fortunate to be able to go in person.

I've always been a bit dubious about Timpsons, even more so when a couple of weeks ago when I took a pair of boots to be reheeled and they said the whole sole would need to be replaced and quoted £85 for the job. I took them to an independent cobbler who replaced the heels for £14.95.

If I were you, I'd be Googling cobblers in your area, which is what I did.

Used to be a fabulous cobbler in Southwark (south london).
