Mulberry Crossbody Bags - why do so many women have them?

LucyLoo1972 · 19/11/2025 06:12

I have never had a nice handbag denote being in an elite profession. I have noticed lots of women where I live have Mulberry crossbody bags. I looked them up and was so shocked at the price tag!! the women I see wearing them dont always look like they are filthy rich so I am intrigued as to why they spend so much on a handbag. Sorry if this is a weird question. Maybe its me becasue we have plenty of money but my husband would go batshit crazy if I said id like one of these and wanted to buy one.

can someone post a pic plse, i have googled the bags and lots of different bags came up in the search.

I think you need to start a new thread OP, in the relationships board. Your updates suggest you need some support and that’s getting lost in this thread as posters are understandably focusing on just the bag.

Not now. I was an academic and then Had a horrific breakdwon eight years ago from anxiety. in therapy my counsellor raised the issue that my husband added a lot to the stress that led to the breakdwon. part of that stress was him not liking me spending money on certain thigns. it nearly killed me.

Leave your husband and buy the bag!! I can guarantee the bag will give you more happiness!

LoveSandbanks · 19/11/2025 11:20

I have a small Mulberry purse that is several years old in general daily use. It genuinely looks as good now as it did when I bought it.

I did a leather handbag making day a few years ago and the girl that ran it (highly qualified in leather work) used to work for Mulberry as a student. She is convinced that the bags are excellent quality.

This isn’t about the bag, it’s about your husband and that you aren’t happy.

I have an Amberly and a mini Alexa from Mulberry. I’m a high earner and bought them myself. I’m not interested in DH’s opinions on bags and it came from my own allotted fun money not like I didn’t contribute fully to our household accounts and savings.

yes. we never spent on anything.

The quality used to be fantastic. I have about 5 mulberry bags - none of which I paid over £1000 for as I have had them around 10 years at least. They’re understated, well made and trusty! I can’t comment on the current quality as I don’t own any recent mulberries but the ones I have are great. Not the most fashionable but very hard wearing.

MabelMoo23 · 19/11/2025 11:58

I have 3 x Mulberry bags , 1 x Bayswater which is classic black and it’s 14 years old and I absolutely love it. However I didn’t pay anything like the price it is now.

I bought it with a redundancy payment - it was the first time I had bought myself a luxury item, for me, with my own money. Not a present, not on a credit card. I love it.

Blingismything · 19/11/2025 11:59

There are also many counterfeits and a strong pre owned market as previously mentioned. I have a large Antony bag, it is fairly old but a real workhorse.

Have you thought about counselling or therapy to help you?

thank you. yes I have intensive psychotherapy every week. it costs us over £1000 per month which is a lot more than one mulberry bag would have cost us!

Blimey - are you sure you need to spend that much? There are many other therapists out there that won’t break the bank…

yes - well it is not working for me in any case. im not shifting forward in any significant ays, ti just makes me realise more and more the foolish ways I lived and beat myself up more and more. so many terribel things have happened off the back of my getting unwell but its a long story.

I am a therapist. I’d really recommend CBT or even compassion focused therapy for you - that would help you move forward in a more meaningful way! Be a lot more affordable too.

thank you! I did have a course f CBT as the first stab at helping me but it didnt really work for me. maybe becasue my breakdwon was psychotic? and I have soem remnants of delusional thinking, I dont know. I see a consultant clinical psychologist now. it feels liek I actually died eight years ago and I dont even feel any connection to the person I wa before. I do blame yself because d built an amazing life and I didnt ask for help when I needed it and it out me everything.

Ah okay, I didn’t realise that. However, some CBT therapists do offer CBT for psychosis. A clinical psychologist would be good. I think therapy is more about the relationship rather than the technique as such. I think you need to reclaim your life OP. This doesn’t need to be the end for you. 🩷

Maybe take a break for a while and treat yourself to a new Mulberry 🌳

HVC · 19/11/2025 17:13

Have you checked the pre owned section?

Dinoswearunderpants · 19/11/2025 17:15

I have several of these bags and often spend many hundreds of pounds on bags (pre kids).

These days people are often walking around with fakes too but you can barely notice the difference at a glance.

I would love one!

Pres11 · 19/11/2025 18:40

It is a weird question, people generally buy things they want and like. It’s that simple.

Notpop · 19/11/2025 18:42

I have a couple of second hand ones which are excellent quality and have really survived the years. DSis got one for her 40th from her DH (she chose it!) and it isn’t anywhere near the quality of the pre-owned ones I have (I would never dream of telling her that though 😂)

PaisleyGilmourStreet · 19/11/2025 19:07

I've loved Mulberry since I was a tiny child admiring my teacher's Mulberry saddle bag 😂
I've been lucky enough to have had all the icons at one point or another. I've settled on the small zipped bayswater (my current one is black) and the double zipped bayswater (my current one is red).
The bags which open and close via the postman's lock (alexa, bayswater etc) are beautiful, but too much of a faf! I like how user friendly the zipped are.

Willyoujust · 19/11/2025 19:16

I cringe when I see people with designer bags with the big logos. I think it’s just for show and to give some kind of image that you have money. You can buy such good quality similar handbags without the big logos on at a fraction of the cost. So people saying that they buy them for the quality doesn’t make sense to me.
